Calling all of BHM's seamstresses or those who just know how to work a sewing machine!
I'd love to have this thread full of information about sewing. Share your knowledge, your experiences, your tips, and most of all, your creations!
Last month, I bought my first sewing machine and it's this beauty:
The Singer 7258. <3 I got it for about $170 off of Amazon and on my first day testing her, she ran so smoothly, I instantly fell in love.
I've taken a college sewing class but much of the knowledge gained has slowly deteriorated so I'm keeping my knowledge fresh and finally making my own things!
I'm in the process of gathering all the tools I need and also compiling books that teach about sewing.
I recently bought The Sewing Book by Allison Smith and oh my GOD is this book informative!! I'm not even sure if I should refer to it as a regular book, it's more like an encyclopedia of sewing and teaches you EVERYTHING!!
If you're new to sewing or just want a book where you can refer to things you need explanation on/learn new things, I highly recommend this book.
I also bought the Collette Handbook of Sewing which I think is great but you definitely need a little experience in crafting to really utilize the book at its highest efficacy. It's a very simplified book with a simple aesthetic so prior knowledge is recommended. I think it's a great started book for the newbie who is tired of making silly little items and wants to move onto clothing. I cannot wait to gain more experience because the clothes you can make in this book are CUTE.
What I love most is that the book actually comes with patterns for these items too!
Anyway, enough gushing.
I really hope this thread grows well. I've seen past sewing threads here but they're quite momentary. I'd love to have a little sewing community growing here.
