A 55-year-old Pomona man was sentenced to two years in state prison Tuesday for raping a 14-year-old girl who worked at his wife’s tutorial program.

Jacques Menos was described in a Rockland County probation report as unremorseful and likely to sexually attack again, Judge William Nelson said in New City as he sentenced Menos on his conviction for second-degree rape.

Nelson also noted Menos had three arrests on charges of a sexual nature since June 1991 and Menos’ rape of the underage girl marked his second conviction, but he didn’t detail the case. He said the probation report described Menos as a “habitual” sexual abuser.

Menos told Nelson, “I feel ashamed for something I did I deeply regret. I did a terrible thing.

“I’d like to say to the victim’s family, I’m very sorry,” he said.

Nelson told Menos that he wouldn’t publicly describe the undisputed facts involving the rape of the 14-year-old. He noted Menos was 52 when he took the girl from a tutorial program on Jan. 22, 2010, to a motel in Clarkstown, where he had sexual intercourse with the child.

The 14-year-old girl helped at an after-school tutoring program that Menos’ wife, Jodi Georges, has run in Ramapo for nearly 17 years.

The Focus Tutoring Group helps 39 children in kindergarten through sixth grade. Most of the children speak Creole or Spanish and attend the financially strapped East Ramapo school district. The students get homework help, snacks and peer mentoring from older students at the Cultural Arts Center on Main Street in Spring Valley.

Ramapo has moved to evict her from the center in a dispute over whether she has the proper paperwork to operate.

Georges declined to comment after her husband’s sentencing at the Rockland County Courthouse in New City.

Georges has said while her husband sometimes gave children who attended her program rides home at the request of their parents, his arrest in February 2012 had “nothing to do with” her ability to run her program well.

Menos’ lawyer, Beth Finkelstein, asked Nelson for an adjournment so Menos could see his cardiologist to plot a medical plan. She said Menos recently underwent a quadruple bypass and was experiencing sensitivity issues from the surgery.

She said her client pleaded guilty to the charge and accepted the sentence.

In addition to two years in state prison, Menos was sentenced to seven years’ post-release supervision and must be classified for the state sexual offender registry. He also must pay fees topping $1,400.
