NFL To Support Jovan Belcher’s Daughter With Over $100,000 A Year
Via Yahoo! Sports
On the same day the Kansas City Fire Department released the 911 tapes from the murder-suicide of Chiefs player Jovan Belcher and his girlfriend Kasandra Perkins, the NFL announced some positive news. Zoey, the 3-month-old daughter of Perkins and Belcher, will be supported by the league through college.
According to NFL.com’s Ian Rapoport, she is the beneficiary of the collective bargaining agreement signed last year. Zoey’s guardian or her estate will receive $108,000 a year. When she is 5, she will receive $48,000, then $52,000 a year until she is 18 or 23, depending on if she goes to college.
Belcher shot Perkins on Saturday morning, then kissed her and apologized. He then apologized to his mother, who was staying with the couple to help with Zoey as they worked on their problems, and then kissed Zoey. He then went to the Chiefs’ training facility and shot himself in the head in front of head coach Romeo Crennel and general manager Scott Pioli.
Belcher’s mother, Cheryl Shepard, said Wednesday that Zoey is doing “fine.” Shepard didn’t add much else but to say that she herself hasn’t eaten or slept much since the tragedy. The Chiefs attended a memorial service for Belcher on Wednesday.
It’s good to know that despite the shady way that the NFL has dealt with its’ players, that they will stand-up and do the right thing by little Zoey.
Classy move guys.

that's good glad that they are doing that. I hope the money goes into the right hand and really goes to helping her throughout the years.

So how much is it a year? 108/year until 5 years old? Or 108+48 lump sum when she turns 5?

That's what I'm confused about. It just seems as if she's only getting $52,000 a year after the lump sum. Maybe they meant she was only getting $100k through the time she's 18?

I hope they don't spend that girls money up. So the mother of the murderer is keeping her, you would think the maternal granny would have her.

I hope they don't either. Hate to hear news reports when she is older saying she has 0 dollars in her account because folks was spending her money. Then the folks spending her money will try and justify it saying they needed to pay for her upkeep

Im sure it goes to her but that money wouldn't have lasted her too long she should be well taken care of now.
