I feel ya. For some reason I cannot get into grits. Taste like something you would give to the infirmed or babies. I can get down on some gizzards. But then again I didn't grow up eating grits, cream of wheat, and a host of stuff popular in the South of the USA. But to each its own.

Honestly taste-wise, it's not horrible but the texture will put you off for real.

But umm I dont eat nasty stuff. I recently realized salt on cookies is good

The salt brings out the sweetness, hence the somewhat popularity of salted caramel, saltwater taffy, etc.

Both grits and polenta are ground cornmeal. You can prepare it different ways .
You can also make grits more than just one way.
Alton Brown learned me . He did a show on it
