When I was in highschool, these mexican dudes in one of my classes were always saying it. At first I'd get offended and angry and try to insult them back (they found it hilarious) but eventually I just stopped talking to them.
I knew an asian kid who said "Brotha" as a joke, but I called him out in it - we were friends and he stopped saying it (around me at least).

I didn't react the first time it happened to me. I want to say I was in junior high school in Dallas, TX (it's been a long time). Those white people were always doing some sheeit to intimidate including the schools being shut down for bomb and sniper threats during black history month. My mom didn't care so we never had a talk. The school I went to was in White Settlement school district so.... 
I think I didn't react because I spent most of my childhood overseas and these incidents weren't common place for me; I didn't have much exposure outside of what I read in books or saw in movies. However.......my daughter was called a n****** by our neighbor's kids and I totally lost my mind. The neighbors had to move and I'd like to think it's because I made life miserable for them. Right after that she was taunted by kids on a school bus while she was walking home from school. Same vile words thrown at her. It hasn't stopped and these ignorant kids don't care. I've called the school, spoken to the district but nothing happens/changes. I have been feeling like a pot that is about to boil over lately and I don't like feeling so angry. I also had the talk with my daughters, they are more forgiving. I have not been the same and have lost a lot of patience and tolerance for others.

It was HS and it was in-directly
I got upset because that was the reaction that I was taught to have when having that name hurled at me but now I regret it
There shouldn't be any word that a person can call me that should bare any effect on me
N***er is an ugly word and anybody who uses it exposes themselves
But I wouldn't beat someone up for calling me a b*tch nor any other word

This summer at work. A guest was drunk. She misunderstood something i said, walked to my face abd called me a Brotha Man. Then she kept yelling it until she walked out. It was a old white hispanic lady. I was shaking soooo hard. I was even angrier because my black manager who was standing next to me did nothing

Yeah, I was 9 years old living in Northern Cali in this apartment complex with my parents. I was walking through the under pass and these white kids that I didn't know where walking through the underpass also.
One of the kids was like " Hey watch out N1gg3r "
I was like "did he just call me the N word?" I wasn't offended cause I didn't know quite what that word really meant.
I eventually just forgot about it and went over to my friend Nicks house... who was white. Come to think of it.. All my friends where white at that time. |

I will never forget, the 1st and only time. It was in Massachusetts and I was also 9. A boy around my same age got mad because I was taking too long on the video game. He told his friend, "The N* has been on here forever." I turned around and said F*ck You and finished playing. (Yes, I had a filthy mouth back then and was a hard ass...no fear. Still have a filthy mouth and have no intention on changing.) They walked away. I wasn't with my parents and never told them. I did tell my sister when I got back to NYC though.
