Rummy I agree

I have a light bright sister and I've shared her struggle so to speak

She turns red whenever someone refers to her as "bright". She jumps for joy when summer comes because she gets a tan.

I can compliment her skin and she looks so uncomfy :-(
Like, girl you look radiant. And she'll look pained and give me a weak "thanks".

This is my older sis. It frustrates me that she feels inferior over something beyond her control.
Actually, it pisses me off. I want her to be in love with herself just as much as the next person of color.

It's definitely an odd topic among our community, there are no clear winners. This isn't a competition nor should it ever have been to begin with.

I think the balancing act with being light skin is feeling just as good in your skin without upsetting someone else's insecurities. Chile. I can't imagine juggling that. Lmao

Especially as a brazen self confident woman. Turn down for what yet still be humble bout some damn skin. It's a mind fukk.

Some people I look at just being light brown people call light skin, like Tae Heckard (my avi) I consider her brown but everyone on instagram calls her light skin or yellow. Is she considered light or brown? I'm curious.

Its the same way with guys…The scale is smaller though.
Society just puts less pressure on our looks and more pressure on our earning potential.

Hmmm I have to admit I did not read all of this but I will say I'm light and I never knew there was an issue between all the shades aside from pale white and all the other shades .

Growing up my friends were of every color and background. When I started reading on this board is when I found out there is animosity between light skin and dark skin and that light skin apparently to some, gets better treatment.

Of course some people just don't like you....I'm the middle of the roader and she both sides of the struggle...I just think no ones struggle is bigger than the other.

I don't like the dissmissiveness when light people want to talk about their ish..

LS black men seem to have it harder to me

as a LS black woman I definitely try to fight the ignorance thats usually in my favor. Light-skinned men are def seen as more feminine, punkish, sissy, whatever.

My lil brother tries to be so hard but hears "your light skin is showing" all the time. My uncle came over my mom's house last night and asked where he was. I told him that he's in the bathroom and unc was like, "of course his lil light ass in the bathroom...probably taking off his makeup!!!" so weak.

LOL You sound like my nephew's ex.  She's mixed, her hair is very course (She's a hairdresser), meanwhile her daughter by my nephew whose mother is mixed has long silky curls all down her back.   She's always like WTF is up with that??  I'm such a loser.

Her Daddy is Jamaican though so his genes obviously took over the hair battle.

My daughter looks Mexican and our last name adds to the fuel.  Her Great, Great Grandfather on dad's side was Mexican though so we got stuck with the name.

My mom is a quarter black.  She could pass for yt and I'm brown skinted.  She has some serious colorism issues but that's a whole other thread.

My brother is light as fck and his kids are half Filipino.  One of his son's is very militant and he hates yt ppl so much and they CONSTANTLY ask him his race.  His response is "Im black you stoopid ass cracka".  I tried to tell him not to get so mad but he is super angry about the whole thing.  He said "Auntie, its not my fault yt ppl are fckn retarded!Angry"  He's really nice to black ppl about it.  I hope he calms down like my brother finally did.  They gone put my baby in jail for going off on yt ppl.

And thank goodness for my DS daddy cause he saved me from having to deal with the issue on either scale.  Not ls or ds but the whole thing really breaks my heart all around.

The (white) debil strikes again.
