I have some unexplained tender spots in my scalp. They come and go, it just starts to hurt out of no where. If i pressed hard the pain is not deep inside. Has anyone experience this? A collegue told me she heard people say when more than one hair grows out of one follice that happens. Any Idea? Thanks.

I get tender spots accompanied w. growth spurts.  They eventually go away though.  Whenever I find a sore spot, I celebrate 'cause then I know my hair is growing!!!

I have always said that it was like an ingrown hair.  I would just grin and bear the pain and pull the hair as much as I can to get the hair out. And since I never know which hair it is, I just take a tiny section of hair and pull as gentle as I can. it hurts like the d!ckens, but it always helps me.

hope this helps

Well then i should bare the pain and enjoy!! But it hurts big time, i can't even sleep on that side if i have a tender spot on the side. I have been complaining almost 2 weeks and they just switch places.

Thanks gurls.

I have them too, but I have no idea what causes it.   It's always the same spot, just as mysteriously as it comes, it goes.

I thought I was the only one.  I hope it is because of hair growth.

Same here...that usually happens when my hair is growing.  It usually subsides after I wash my hair though.  After I give my scalp a good massage during the washing..the tenderness goes away.  I even experience tiny sores on my scalp.  But I think that that comes for the hair growth as well.  Like the tenderness thesores come and go and my scalp is fine.  Another possibility could be a hair product.  Maybe there is an ingredient in it that is creating the tenderness.  Allergies come in all sorts.

I've had what I call "the sore scalp
syndrome" since I was little. My mother called it being
"tenderheaded". I asked my stylist about it and
she said that because our hair isn't completely smooth
when it grows in, the little ridges in the newgrowth
irritate the scalp. She compared it to a baby
teething....the teeth breaking through the skin cause
the baby's gums to hurt. She suggested using pure tea
tree or eucalyptus oil on my scalp (which acts as an
antiseptic) to help soothe the soreness and it really
works well for me.
