Im just going to be asking a whole lot of questions in my head, with a full belly, no less! |

say what now?
I thought he was gifted the gift card
if he is BUYING the gift card himself for the "savings", that means he can control the amount on it, so get yourself together and top up before you hit the restaurant
but still if he has to pay over the giftcard amount with cash, so be it
it's the $18.98 on debit, $10 cash and see if the rest can go credit ... man please don't stress your money like that
how do you pay your bills if dinner is hurting your pockets?

I have some gift cards that have a toll-free number on the back. You can call and check your balance, or text BAL from your mobile phone and they will send you a message with your balance.

I was just pointing this out because it's one way I save money and still get to eat at my fav place without having to do too much work.

I agree that the bold is a bit awkward and inconvenient. But there's multiple reasons a person could be in that situation and I try not to make assumptions since this is the first few dates. I would just take note and keep paying attention as I got to know the person better. I do things when paying for stuff that might make me look like my financial house isn't in order...for example, sometimes I hand the server the wrong credit card because they look alike and then I have to make them cancel the whole thing and put it on the right one. Why? Not because I'm broke, but because I might want the points/miles/cashback/discount/customer protections of a specific card. Or because I'm paying for something for my mom and it's supposed to go on her card, not mine.

I've seen the giftcards at big box stores but didn't know they had that savings or that you'd buy them for yourself rather than gift them
eh eh

Oh is it weird to buy a gift card for yourself? I'm just trying to get more for my money. I do that with Jamba Juice cards. Jamba juice is overpriced but I love it. So I buy the gift cards at costco because I can get 50$ worth of gift cards for 39.99. So to me, that's like getting 2 jamba smoothies for free.

I've gifted them but it never occurred to me to buy giftcards to use myself
I already said I don't have issues with giftcards
