not splitting the check, but method of payment
would you feel some kind of way if he had to split the payment when you all went out
whether it be cash and credit or using different credit cards or gift cards
would that matter?

On the first few dates? As in this happened more than once? I'd feel that he needs to get a better handle on his finances and find someone to date who also has piss-poor money managing skills. I'm not the one. I wouldn't be mad, but I wouldn't go out with him again either.

If he is in college, working one or two jobs, or some kind of struggling actor or writer in his 20's, cool. If he is in his early thirties, has a job/career, and needs to split the payment in one of two cards or a credit card + cash....it would be a bit of a turn off. I am not diving on a pool of money but I don't need a guy who should have his sh!t together and doesn't. It would be obvious that he has some money issues or maybe spends more than he should and now is facing some financial difficulties but it just doesn't look good. I may overlook that or be more tolerant if he knows how to eat me though

that $100 dinner split between cash, debit, credit etc
would be better put to groceries or savings or paying down your balance
until paying for dinner isn't painful

not really.
what if you had a $80 giftcard to that restuarant. using a crisp $20 and some change to cover the tip isn't that big of a deal, is it?

It wouldn't be if it wasn't on the first few dates. Better to do that when you have been dating the girl for a while.
