Hi Ladies

I'm new to the whole U part/ or 3/4 wig thing. I'm gonna be making a u part wig when my hair arrives but I have no idea what the difference is between a Spandex cap or Dome Cap.

Can someone help me out?

I think they are very similar.  One might be larger than the other.  I cant use either one because they stretch out too much.  I prefer the swim caps or mesh weaving caps.

Thanks babe. I did try a mesh cap once but my head was so tender I couldn't even get my braids in (I've been wearing lace wigs forever).

I still have a mesh cap, so I might give that a go.

I suppose the benefit of the spandex cap is its more forgiving when you have hair growth?

Did you try sewing your braids down?  I wear my hair cornrowed straight back and I have to sew the ends to my cornrows or else the cap will be too tight.  Yeah the spandex caps streatch more whick can be a good or bad thing.  In my case, it was a bad thing because when I took off my upart to wash my hair and resew it, it was too looseDead

Yes, I did try braiding my hair down but because it has not been braided for donkey's year it hurt like hell. I normally wear my hair wrapped under a FLW so it was a shock to have cornrows in.

In the last month I have taken to braiding under my lace wig so now my head feels fine but last time I thought I was gonna scalp myself just to get the cornrows out.CryCry

I always use a spandex dome cap for my u-parts. They usually always fit perfectly. Over time, they may get a little loose, but it's never been a big deal because I have a lot of hair underneath. I don't sew on the big band around it. I cut that completely off, which makes it very snug (like Lover4Fashion does it). They take a long time to dry though, unless you sit the u-part right under a fan after you wash it (which is usually what I end up doing). I also prefer them over mesh caps or weaving caps because I personally think they're more flexible and I can do a lot more with them. Just MY opinion.

You must be referring to spandex skull cap, which is larger.

Okay, so the difference is size then? Cool, what I will do is try and find a dome cap as well and then try then all on for size before I get that weaving thread out Wink

Thanks

i made the mistake of making my most current upart on a dome cap (the one with the lines going throughout the cap). Before ive only used the spandex caps that have a lot of extra room, but I was trying something new. Major fail, I had to take it down and redo it on the spandex cap without those ridge lines.

Did you sew on the lines? That will make it too snug and it probably won't fit. It changes the flexibility of the cap.
