i hate how pervasive binary thinking can be.
“Lincoln freed the slaves, so he COULDN’T have been racist!” while
denying all of the politics and economic sh*t that slavery was tangled
like, do you realize how legislation concerning slavery, civil
rights, etc. is also political in ways that aren’t directly connected to
“liking” Black people?
do you realize that abolitionists ain’t have to think Black people
were equal or even SMART to think that slavery was wrong? (because
really, some of them just thought we were stupid beasts who were being
do you realize that a lot of the Civil Rights Act being passed also
had to do with the fact that other, recently “decolonized” countries
full of brown people that America wanted to align with (and probably go
on to exploit) were looking at us like “Well, if you can’t treat YOUR
brown people right, why in the would we ever consider ourselves
like, do you realize that most of the people who historically have
been considered our “allies” still have at least some form of latent
hatred towards us?
