I knew it was going to be this meme, too.
First, let me get something out of the way, here, that really bothers me--the PIC. This is NOT a picture of a Mr. Chang. This is a picture of Akio Morita, the founder of Sony Electronics, who is Japanese. At LEAST they could have found a picture a real Chinese guy to go with the rant.
Next, I think the author is getting Asian culture and values mixed up with IMMIGRANT ones. The author doesn't know the first thing about Asian people to be grouping them all in the same category together like this. Mr. Chang doesn't care about Mr. Yamasaki. Mr. Yamasaki doesn't care about Mr. Choi. Mr. Choi doesn't care about Mr. Luza. Mr. Luza doesn't care about Mr. Nguyen.
As someone who is immersed in two Asian cultures on a daily basis, I can say that unless you are a minority, you generally aren't going to care about others of the same ethnicity. You are going to fail as much as anyone else because there is really not a lot at stake like there is if you pick up and move to the US.
We don't have to perpetuate stereotypes in order to wake ourselves up. Just research black communities that are thriving.
