    Posted: Dec 14 2007 at 10:37am

I have tried the search feature several times and it won't work for me, but I know this has been discussed before

Please tell me how to get rid of this odor from my weave.  I have a full head weave and I used one of the hair coloring bottles to moisturize my braids with water and a little oil mixed together cause my hair is natural.  I think this was big mistake.

The next day I noticed a smell coming from my hair. And my hair itched like crazy.  I scratched with bobby pins.

No my scalp is sore and my head is smelly.Cry

I tried washing it but I think that I burned my scalp a little bit with too hot water.

(guys I am telling you my life has been bad this past few days as far as hair is concerned)

Now my scalp is sore and tender, my hair still smells.... please tell me

what you think the odor is coming from, what I can do to prevent this.

(After I washed my hair the last time, I let it air dry and I don't know if this made it worse. But I have done this is the past and never had any problems before.

Sorry for the long post, thanks in advance for the help.

I would sugest that you do an ACV rinse (Apple Cider Vinegar) for the smell...but seeing that your scalp is sore, you may have some damage done to it. Tea Tree oil will sooth the itching. May I suggest when you wash, that you use a hooded dryer to  dry your natural hair underneath. I hope you get some comfort.

Dont' scratch with bobby pins.  Girl get you some seabreaze and if you have some of those bottles that come with box perms - and fill that bottle that has a nozzle and fill it up.  Seabreaze can stop your head from itching like crazy and if you have listerene - that will help as well - but the smell - I dont' know - sounds like you sweat in your head.  But stop itching your scalp with those bobby pins.  Use Luke warm water to wash your hair.

Brace yourself but do not panic - You may be deveolping bacteria or fungus on your scalp due to the moisture. Mix Lotrimin AF with Sulfur 8 and apply a light layer to your scalp like you are greasing your scalp.

Here is a thread that you should read that is from the Weave 101 sticky thread:

In the meantime, go lurk the Growth forum to find out how much Lotrimin or MN to mix with the Sulfur 8.

Thanks,

Yeah, I think I will wait on the ACV rinse.  I'm sure it would burn horribly.
But I will try the tea tree oil and using the hooded dryer.

Thanks for your help

Witch Hazel also helps with the itchiness and soreness. No burn.

My head itches bad sometimes when i have braids in and also i work out so i get the sweaty smell. What i found what worked for me is that my friend mixed water, olive oil, and peppermint oil together in one of the hair coloring bottles and i would squirt some in the parts where my hair is seperated and let it flow to the back of my head. It keeps my hair that underneath moisturized a little and also it kept my hair from smelling from the sweat!
