African Tick Smuggles Itself Into US Inside Scientist’s Nose!

Posted by Tony on October 12th, 2013

Booger Tick

Shel Silverstein once had a poem about a snail that lived in your nose and would bite your finger off.

Maybe he was inspired by something that’s been going on in Africa that nobody’s ever paid much attention to…until now…

A US pathobiological science professor returned home from an excursion to Africa. Three days later he discovered he’d picked up a small hitchhiker. That small hitchhiker was a tick. It had hitched a ride inside his nose!

After removing the tick using forceps, a mirror and a small torch, the tick was hustled off to Georgia where its DNA was sequenced revealing that this little world traveler might possibly be an entirely new species.

Tony Goldberg, the professor harboring this tiny nightmare in his nose, is now rethinking his theories about how chimps and humans exchange pathogens. Upon further research, reports and high resolution photos turned up these same ticks hiding in chimps’ noses as well.

In a statement we can all relate to, Goldberg says, “”When you first realize you have a tick up your nose, it takes a lot of willpower not to claw your face off.”

We couldn’t agree more…and we don’t even have ticks in our noses.

Posted from the internet:

Not sure how true this story is, but my girlfriend had a co-worker who was into snakes. Not really sure what kind of snake they owned but they said it was at least 6'. Said co-worker had a husband & child (still in a crib). Well before they had the kid they would let the snake sleep in their bed. It would coil up at the foot of the bed and just chill for the rest of the night. No problems.

They end up having the kid. About 6 months later the snake starts acting really weird. Instead of coiling up and sleeping in the bed it would stretch out as far as possible on the floor beside the bed and just lay there.

Co-worker is intrigued and takes the snake to the vet. Vet ends up telling her that the snake was stretching out beside the bed in order to measure her body length and determine how long it would take to eat & digest her/husband. And that if she would have waited another month or so they would have been bit during the night when they were asleep.

tl-dr: Girlfriend's co-worker has a snake. said snake sleeps in bed in coils at first. changes to floor stretched out after time. was plotting to kill owner. end.

This isn't true. A 6' snake is way too small to be able to ingest a human. They're also not smart enough to size up their prey, if it smells and acts like food they will try and eat it. If it ends up being too big they may puke it up if they can get the whole thing down, or they'll just die from eating something too big.
