Repost???

MI Senate Proposes Bill Requiring Community Service for Welfare

Michigan State Senator Joe Hune, R-Hamburg, sponsored legislation that was introduced on Tuesday that would require public assistance recipients to participate in community service

"People benefiting from public assistance should do something to give back to the community that is providing them with a helping hand and that is exactly what my bill does."

Sen. Joe Hune.

Senate Bill 276, introduced by Hune, was originally Senate Bill 905, from last fall's legislative session, and did not pass. Senate Bill 276 would require recipients of cash assistance who are not exempt from the Jobs, Education, and Training programs to take part in community service programs.

"People benefiting from public assistance should do something to give back to the community that is providing them with a helping hand, and that is exactly what my bill does," said Hune. "I am glad that these common sense reforms are moving forward."

Senate Bill 276 was referred to the Senate Families, Seniors, and Human Services Committee for further consideration.

Michigan doesn't have enough problems? This is what this lawmaker focuses on?  i think the focus for welfare recipients should be to get them OFF welfare. give them a skill so that they can work.

and many people on welfare still work--they're not just chillin' at home on BHM

Yes.. growing up we had lunch mothers. They were women that were on welfare or jobless and helped out at the school during lunch time and watching us afterwards on the playground. Nobody looked down on them or their children, in fact they were really liked by us.

Sounds good to me. The pic seems to show a gardening program, which would be great since healthy food is more expensive. That would hopefully lower obesity, which would cut back on health issues ,which would mean less people on disability.
