Since when? The middle class is always what helped america be great. How do you think the baby boomers got to be better off than us? After world war 2 the average middle class citizen helped the economy flourish with their purchasing power. They had enough to take care of home & have some fun. The 1% and 99% is what the problem is. Now a days its like either you got it or you don't. More people becoming rich wont solve our financial crisis.

the economy shouldn't move at the fast pace that we are used to.
one could argue that the economy boost was direct result of the rise of middle class and the power of their dollar

i would agree with the notion of that argument. but the seller and the buyer is to fault.
and the seller who sold the dollar. LOL

i don't think the other part is a disservice though...jobs are looking for degrees.  h.s. diplomas ain't gettin it.

but this is why you have students who aren't prepared to major in STEM programs.
if you don't have the basics, you will fail in college.

if you have the basics and no money you won't go to college

but the consequence of no basics and money is much worse.

the gov't is out of money
you might have loans you can't pay
no job / mediocre job.
probably no entrepreneurial ability
falling back on assistance from the fed gov't for aid.

Thats what I'm saying. Rich folks have crushed the economy with their greed by outsourcing & jacking up the price on consumer goods but have the gall to tell people they just need to work a little bit harder to climb into the 1%. The middle class is needed to keep things fair and balanced. Giving people sh*tty wages and false hope is a slap in the face. The 1% don't care to grow into a larger number because that would mean loss of control for a select few. How can you allocate resources the way you choose when they average person is just as ballerific as you are.

Back in the day corporations would be ashamed to outsource entire divisions and had no issue paying livable wages to employees with benefits and pensions. Now that stigma the is lifted we are here.
