I dont know too much about cars. I'm looking for a car to drive to & from beauty school & work. I found a 2003 mercury sable for $2500. It has 170k miles.   As long as I can get a year outta this car ill be happy. Between school & work (& play) that will probably be around 1000 100 miles a week (& I will def have a mechanic look at it b4 I seal the deal. ) Is this a good deal? I know the miles are high but are these cars reliable? Is it worth it or should I pass? TIA

Edited to add pics & fix miles

If your mechanic says it's in good condition, go for it.

I bought a '98 Camry for $1200 and had to put around $800 worth of work into it, but the combined total is around the Kelly Blue Book price so I'm still out here winning.

You should look the car up on kbb.com and see their suggested retail price.

ok so you have public transportation to fall back on.

i think used toyota/lexus is the way to go.

if you're looking to spend 2500, be bold and look at cars up to double that price and try to talk them down.

don't get too attached and be ready to walk away if they don't play ball.

try looking out toward atlantic city, they have better deals outside of the big city.
