Strangest thing Shelly Sterling's getting out of Clippers sale
The Sterling saga has taken many strange turns since the story broke, and it shows no signs of slowing.
The latest revelation: the strangest thing Shelly Sterling's getting out of selling the Los Angeles Clippers to former Microsoft CEO Steve Ballmer, for what would be a record $2 billion if the NBA's owners approve it.
Her agreement has plenty of perks, but the best is that she
officially would have the title of ''Clippers' Number 1 Fan'' for the
rest of her life. (Along with the title of ''Owner Emeritus.'')
Really? No. 1 Clippers fan? Is this just to rub it in Donald's face?
And what about Clipper Darrell?
To her credit, Sterling isn't remaining close to the Clippers in
title only. The terms of the sale allow for up to 10 percent of the team
— or $200 million — to be spun off into a charitable foundation
that she essentially would run.
But don't forget the perks. And there are plenty. Under terms
detailed in a court filing Wednesday, Sterling also would retain the
* 10 tickets in Sections 101 or 111 for all Clippers games in Los Angeles.
* 2 courtside tickets for all Clippers games in Los Angeles.
* 6 parking spots in Lot C for each game
* 12 VIP passes including access to Lexus Club, Arena Club or
Chairman's Lounge and media room or equivalent, for each Staples game.
* 3 championship rings following any Clippers title
Three championship rings? If Donald ends up wearing one, we'll never hear the end of it — he'd probably make sure of that.
