Shea butter doesn't moisturize - it's a sealant. When my hair is in a sew-in or braids, I just use (rose)water mixed with a moisturizing conditioner and maybe some tea tree/peppermint oil.

Girl do not use shea butter.  The builup would be out of this world.  I would use something like Vitale serum, it has olive oil and some other essential oils.  But it is very light/  Somewhat pricy but it works.

the other sister above is correct.. oils & butters DO NOT MOISTURIZE, they seal the moisture in. you may want to sprits your hair with water or a leave in conditioner ( anything aqueous) then appy the oil or a light butter over it. I like to use avocado oil ( <--my favorite- i get it from whole foods) , coconut oil and/ or castor oil as a sealant. avocado & coconut oil are lighter than the castor oil.  iF you do decide to use shea butter, remember a litle goes a long way. you can find shea butter literally every where, form a local beauty supply store to online.
