My mom taught me how to sew when I was a kid.  I've made bags, dresses, pants, shirts, skirts and coats.  I used to make my skating clothes too.  I don't have a sewing machine anymore; I miss it. Sewing was always so relaxing for me.  Maybe I need to get a new machine...

does anyone feel sewing your own items is more expensive than buying ready-made? Some fabric cost a grip

Yea when you are making larger items it tends to be more expensive compared to just buying something at the store

But the way I see it is sometimes I have a specific vision of what I want. And if I make it myself sure its more expensive but at least Im getting exactly what I want

I have machines but I don't sew clothes. I used in the past to make wigs.

I did make a skirt in high school home ec. class. Funny story.

It can definitely be costier, depending on the fabric you use

I don't mind paying a higher price tag, just as long as it gives me a better quality

The way I see it - since I'm taking the extra time to sew my own clothing, I might as well invest more money in the fabric to ensure I'm getting good quality because the choice of fabric does affect the overall finished garment (draping, feel on body, etc.)
