Black folks don't usually find themselves wanting to live with bears, or climb mountains that would put you in the path of avalanche, its not the norm...So I can't relate to all these situations just b/c they are of the same sex that I am we're not even coming from the same background that would put me in that situation.

I agree completely. She needed a momma like you. I know my mom wouldn't have let me go to a boy's house, at night, on a school night. I feel where you are coming from. So your court has a higher conviction rate? That is good. The justice department estimates that 24% of reported rape perpetrators are actually arrested in the US, and less than 3% serve jail time.

that's not what happened to the girl though.
often times it seems as though women do not want to admit that sometimes a victim can act unwisely.

I wouldn't have a problem with this if it didn't serve to defame rape victims. The entire reason rape shield laws were established was to prevent focusing on what the victim could have done to prevent the crime rather than focusing on why the perpetuator committed the crime. If the victim had any culpability, people tend to doubt the occurrence of the rape. Rapists know this, so who do they rape? Strippers, prostitutes, promiscuous women (who will believe them?), or close friends or family (they are less likely to report), or they join the military (the military isn't prosecuting rapists). American society is apologetic for rape.

you ain't telling me anything i don't know
i was looking for a more nuanced discussion on something this thread/bhm doesn't want to discuss

I wasn't making fun of you. I thought everyone said staph it. I was telling her to stop running in the park at night. If something happens to her, there will be no sympathy. Isn't "staph it" from Jersey Shore? I'm not trying to start stuff. This is a sign I should log off.

I legit thought staph it was the new way to say stop it, like tooken was the new taken. I don't intentionally shade anyone. I'm not that nuanced.

Yeah, I was saying that time and place for discussion on safety and prevention is outside of the discussion of culpability. It has to be at a separate time as not to confuse the issue. There is victim culpability and ways to avoid or minimize rape. It should be taught and emphasized, but it's own place. If that makes sense. I don't have a problem admitting that women can do things to be safer.

that's rightLOL see her ass wouldn't have got out the house on a school night let alone going to a party.. you damn right..

yes we successfully do good in our sex crimes, we've got some good Prosecutor's that know how to work it in jury trials, just excellent.. but we've had cases where we had to send the police to get the girl's mother out of a crack house to come and testify.. the girl got in this position b/c the mother used her daughter to hang out with these young men b/c they liked the daughter, so the moma can get high..i've seen and heard too much..
