I think Mellie is in it for the position...I'm sure she does have some love for him but she'd be damned if she makes it easy for Olivia to have him. Throughout the seasons, she always said that she cleaned him up and polished up his self esteem, she graduated at the top of her class as a law student. They all were sitting at that round table scheming on how to get Fitz in the presidency so they all could live through him in some capacity.

i think he knows his wife was trife and pretty much said he knows she's always going to be a cutthroat ride or die chick. that's why he wasn't the least bit surprised wifey was involved. with olivia, i think he was caught off guard because he put olivia on a pedestal and thought she was morally upright, i think the fact that she was troubled by the affair made him want her even more. finding out she was just like everyone else turned him off.

man fck fitz. mellie acting her ass off. he been treating her like ahit go how long? she is in this for the image.
he wanted Olivia to be absolutely perfect and no one is. she makes one mistake because of her love for him and suddenly she's damaged goods and he don't want any parts.
I'm glad she didn't get with Edison though. they both deserve more than they could give each other.
as soon as he said that I want that painful love he was like oop dodged a bullet on this one
