That's stupid. They're in school. Let them decide if they want to take the "risk" of keeping their hairstyle when they try to enter the workforce. The best you can do is explain the possible backlash that might occur from whites but to ban specific hairstyles from school grounds is ridiculous, especially when said hairstyles are in line with the very structure of black hair.

^^^^ in nursing school our hair couldn't touch our collar, we could only have stud earrings in our ears.  Tattoos had to be fully covered.  No one cared whether it was fair or too much.  Now you could bust all that out and maybe still get hired.  I know plenty of tatted up, pierced up nurses.  But in school, we had to do what we had to do.  We were told we represented our school and when we were representing ourselves we could do it anyway we liked.

Infuriating. If you don't prefer to date people with a certain hair style that's one thing. To ban Simone from becoming educated at a facility for wearing a style that typically only we wear is racist and should be illegal.

im going to play devils advocate.
yes there are some professionals w/ dreads out there...
(please dont quote me and tell me about ya aunty n dem dreads and how they work for a fortune 500 country.. cuz i promise i believe you and dont care...lol)...but it is still not something you see a lot of in the corporate world.
I'm going to call a spade a spade.. its not a "conservative" hair style.

Hampton isn't forcing you to go to their MBA program.. so if you have dreads.. and want to keep your dreads.. there are tons of other schools that will accept you. give them your hard earned money.

it would be great to live in a place. where you are just judged by the content of the work you produce etc etc... but that isn't this country.
we are judged by our sex, race, religion, sexuality, clothing . etc etc. .. your hair is not an exception.

and in reality there is no real difference between dreads and conrows. They can both be styled similar.. so you can't really say.. conrows ewww.. not here.. but dreads yay!  and the same reasons one can say NO to conrows can be used to say no to dreads.

if you have dreads and want to be great... do that! I applaud ya and wish you nothing but the best. but hampton is training a certain type of student. If they dont want you based on your hair.... say F them and keep it moving. Their loss.

My stance was the same... in another thread we had recently where some girl was fighting for the right to have locs or what have you in the military.
if someone doesn't want you to help better them---- do your thing elsewhere and prove them wrong.

The ban is only on male students.  It's akin to saying a white male student cannot have long hair.  I don't see the problem.

A university's placement rate of graduates will affect their rank.  I can imagine that it's a lot harder placing locked and cornrowed males in the corporate world.
