For those of you interested, I've just stumbled upon the greatest video ever
of what a fully reusable launch system should be.
Most rockets are designed to burn up on their trip back through earth's atmosphere, which means that these rockets can be used only one time.
Imagine having to discard your car after every use. If you had to make another trip, you'd have to buy another car.
So SpaceX (and a host of other aerospace companies) are developing fully reusable launch systems that will not only orbit, but return to its launch site - this means surviving the reentry 'burn up' (these vehicles burn up because they are moving at speeds upwards of 17,000 MPH, so you've got a lot of frictional drag and forced convection..blah blah blah...)
The BEST part about this system is that both stages (many launch vehicles separate into different 'stages' for thrust performance...blah blah blah)
Anyway, this video gave me goose bumps because this hasn't been done yet, and to see this rendering is just...wow.
I sawear to gawd I'm probably gonna marry a launch vehicle and have its babies.
LOOK ALIVE, PEOPLE!
