Yeah, I am going to really start on this after I get my Bey tickets tomorrow (once in a lifetime. simply must).

I am terrible when it comes to money and I honestly don't know where it all goes, besides to tuition. I wanted to start paying off the unsubsidized loans that have accrued interest so I am not totally behind, but that's hard to do if I have to turn around and take out more for next year.

It's a never ending cycle.

I scored a paid internship in the area I studied at university! I'm so excited. It's at a DNA sequencing company not far from where I live. I was so worried that I wouldn't find work or gain any kind of experience with only a b.s.

congrats to you guys who are sticking to it!

I'm still plugging along....having a very quiet and boring summer at home...hahahaha.  No travel this summer, but I'm making the best of it.

My priorities are still the same.  Except now I want to really, really, really get the out of this country.  I'm so disappointed with the Trayvon Martin case, I won't ever be traveling to Florida if I can help it.

I'm working on my dual citizenship - Colombia/USA and that has me getting documents, birth and death certificates and the likes.  The end goal is to retire in Colombia with $500K which based on today's exchange rate that would be $949,301,642.87 Colombian pesos...about as close to a billion pesos as you can get. I think I can work with that. Providing the dollar stays high in comparison to the peso - it just increased like 15%...no bueno.

Real estate is dirt cheap in Colombia in comparison to the U.S. - not Bogota, (too cold for me anyways) but you can find really good prices in the tropical area of Santa Marta or Barranquilla - Cartagena not so much.  I've been looking on line at various properties that are ridiculously cheap in terms of US $ for what you would pay for here.

So who knows....I just gotta keep plugging away at it.  Keep my goal in sight and save my money.

How is everyone's goals coming along?

I put money away, but not to the point where I can't do anything. I don't understand when people put off living until they retire, because tomorrow is not promised and we don't know what our state will be when we retire. I love living now and traveling and living abroad and doing fun things while I can. Taking long walks, hikes, doing adventurous things, staying out late dancing, etc..because when I'm up there in age...you get tired. I know because my aunt came to visit me in Spain when she was 65 y/o and she has always traveled throughout her life, but just to the Caribbean..anyways...she is in great health, but she was limited in what she could do because she would get tired soon...and we went to Rome, which I had planned to do before I knew she was coming, and maaaaaannnnnnnn...let's just say we didn't get to see everything and I had a side trip to FLorence planned that we couldn't do. So, like she told me.."it is good you are doing this now, because once you get my age you will not be able to get around like that". Mind you I love to walk...I don't waste money on cabs and stuff. I would like to buy some land and have a house built on that land or something. So yea..I just want to say if you have plans to do things..do them, just put a certain amount of money away but not so much that you can't enjoy the pleasures of life in the present.

what;s a good bank to start an emergency fund in?

i've been reading captial one has a good savings account, ING is good ( is it being bought out?) and Ally??

Also, do you have a retirement AND a roth ira AND an emergency fund AND a "normal" savings account (like for traveling adn stuff) and how much do you decide to put in each every month?

whats more important.. reducing ur debt (grad loans) or saving (for roth/retirement/emergency fund?)

I can pay my bills fine but I really want to save. I hate renting an apartment. I want my own house and a bigger savings. That's why I had two jobs for the past 6 months. I do not mind not sleeping as much but I just wasn't happy at b of a. So now I am looking elsewhere....this sucks.

Morena, first, I commend you for not wanting to test on animalsClap
Second, have you tried to just create natural cosmetics? Those are the ones that wouldn't require animal testing because they are 100% pure, but since you have a BS in biochemistry, you should know the least harmful unnatural ingredients that wouldn't require extensive testing (or animal testing) to know that is safe for use.

Yes, I've been experimenting with loose pigments/eyeshadow in my apartment the last few months. It's hard coming up with colors that aren't already readily available elsewhere, ya know?
I got a lot of info from online forums and I also made friends with another girl who has a similar goal. I've also been experimenting with skincare things, like serums, lotions, masks and face washes.

By next spring I'm hoping to have somewhere to keep all my ingredients and where I can play around with it all. There's not enough room at my apartment Embarrassed
