Topic: Residue? Posted: May 07 2007 at 4:10pm |
Hi, i've had locs for about 3 years now and I've been having trouble getting residue out of my hair... I've tried clarifying/neutralizing shampoo, tea tree oil, and i stopped using gel/wax. all along the dreads it looks like there are small white bulbs on the tips of the broken hairs, i also tried melting them off using a blow dryer but that doesn't work either. It's definitely not lice or eggs, haha. they look more like blulbs/follicles from the roots. any suggestions??
Thanks

It might be worth it to go to a salon, so s professional can take a look, or try posting the question on nappturality.

It sounds like you have alot of build up. Try washing your hair with baking soda water. Mix 1 tablespoon of baking water in 1 and 1/2 cups of warm water. This is more gentle than using shampoo yet it cleanses better.

The little bulbs are your hair follicles. What I may suggest is do an apple cider vinegar rinse after you shampoo. That really helps. But make sure you put moisturizer in afterwards because it can be very drying. I notice I have some built up in a few locks in the back of my hair. I pretty much do not use commerical products in my hair just essential oils and castile soap. Hope this work for you!

Jananke is partly right. These white bits though cannot be washed off. They are a part of your hair. The only thing you can do is to dye your hair (henna, temporary dye) if they are bothering you.

The small white bulbs you see at the end of your locs may be cotton buildup from your pillow, or clothes. Whenever I see one trying to form a space on my locs, I pic it out.
My friend who is a loctician uses a certain shampoo that is better than clarfying shampoo to get all the buildup/residue out. I'm going to call her later and find out what she uses.
Also, are you doing protein treatments, and conditioning your hair regularly?

Natural Earth has some really good products. I used some this week and I was impressed with the results. My clients loved how their scalps felt (intense minty feel, felt clean), the products did not dry out their hair and smelled wonderful. Here's the link www.Naturalhair.org, the gift pack has everything needed.

definitely isnt residue to the Original poster. thats is ur hair bulbs from follicles
attatched @ the ends of each hair. as other have mentioned,
the only remedy ive heard of is dying them as well.
