I was think about this when I posted.   There are a few reasons convicted felons have a hard time getting back into society and this is one of them.   I have heard so many of them say things like I'm not even an American now because of something that happened a long time ago.   Don't you find a lot of them who actually can vote but are convinced they can't for whatever reason?

This is a start. I don't know how effective it'll be since more companies will just do background checks though, but hopefully it'll help some.

I also wish they would look more closely at what kind of crime was committed before denying them the opportunity to work. Tough situation
Thumbs Up

What type of crime and when it was committed.

Sometimes they are turned away ONCE  & never try again.  They can keep checking to see if its lifted & GO REGISTER  it is sooooo important that we do.  A neighbor of mine cannot, but I think he will in a couple of yrs.   I see his wife's name in the voting books & always wondered about him.   I thought it was cuz he was a foreigner, but I spoke to him a couple of days ago & he told me the truthCry

I think this is good. At least give these people a chance to get their foot in the door to get an interview. They can explain what happened and you can base your decision on that instead of just tossing their application because they checked a box. Different crimes hold different weights in my opinion. I don't care if a rapist works construction but I wouldn't want them working at my kids school.

I know someone who caught a felony charge because they sold a gun that was legally registered to them. The gun was registered in VA and they sold it to a DC resident ( a friend). He didn't know that it was illegal to sell a gun to an out of state resident and the gun was involved in a crime and traced back to him. Now he has a felony charge but he never did time. He can't find a job because employers see that on the application and he doesn't even get the chance to explain. A simple mistake caused him so much.
