Hello everyone, how are you guys? I just wanted to ask everyone for some tips on how to care for my hair. My hair type is 4C and I'd love to grow out my hair to waist length. Currently I am at shoulder length. Anyone knows any tips, tricks and something useful to know? Thanks Smile

Wow...eye opening.  I had no clue.  I'm sure this was the reason why I was  getting different answers, due to not being able to provide a more accurate picture of the situation.

  • Your hair is relaxed
  • You have previously relaxed your hair, but don't have a lot of virgin new growth
  • Your hair is wet
  • You are transitioning and although you have a lot of new growth, you are unsure how much of your hair is new growth and how much is previously relaxed hair
  • You relaxed your hair, but it reverted

All of the above make it difficult or impossible to determine your hair type!

When determining your hair type, please remember the following:

  • You need at least 3-4 inches of virgin new growth, if your hair was previously relaxed or texturized (and even then, it will be difficult to tell for sure)
  • your hair should be completely, 100% dry
  • If you relaxed your hair and it "reverted", it has still been chemically processed and hence its texture has been altered
  • If you are transitioning, you will not be able to really determine your hair type until all relaxed ends have been cut off. The presence of the relaxed hair makes it difficult to type the new growth, because the relaxed ends can alter the shape of your new growth

Please also remember, when posting pictures, that they need to be of a good resolution. Also try not to include only close-up shots, but also a picture of your whole head taken from a distance. Why? Because the close-up shots make it difficult to estimate the size of your curls. Wink

thanks for you tip Afro.
