Being selfish isn't always bad. I'd hyphenate because of the history of my lastname and the importance I feel is placed in it.
simple as that.

i'm takin my man's name. i don't like the whole not taking your husband's name.
if i were a man, i wouldn't allow it. but if both of them are fine with it, i don't care.

I wouldn't hyphenate though I'd just move my surname and get rid of my middle name

I might change my name and unless his is better than the change, I'm keeping it.

the history thing was said too, and he summed it up perfectly
So when u ladies get married, and your last name is changed to his,
you're not a part of your family anymore? The history isn't still there?
History doesn't give a fucc about your last name. Your last name doesn't define your history.

if someone places importance on their history, then they would want their children to bear that name... with all the history that it contains. i get that.
especially if you're a family of few men who can pass on your last name.

Ill probably be taking my husbands last name.. But I certainly don't think that women who don't are selfish. That's just kinda a crazy assumption to me.
But then again, I don't seem to care about strangers relationships like others do.

I dont see how hyphenating equates to wanting to wear the pants but okay. If anything I think men these days think of women who want to be "independent" (i.e. women who would rather work more than be home with the kids, etc.) as the type who wants to wear the pants. And like nita said aint nothing wrong with a little bit of selfishness. There is more to a marriage than a last name honey if not taking the man's last name is all it takes to break up a marriage then that marriage probably needed working on to begin with.
