The carrot cake I got from Wal-Mart (I think) recently was pretty mediocre. That sucked since I haven't had carrot cake in probably over 10 years before that.

I've noticed something. This was kinda inspired by that ghetto name thread hopefully it makes sense.

It seems that black People who have to Struggle a little less tend to reject white standards a little more. Like black people who come from a comfortabe socio-economic background (im not talking about new money) Seem to be less judgemental on "ghetto names.

Or another example are the most pro black people i know are lightskineed and/ or mixed.

Thoughts? Has this been your experience?

i can't say that i've noticed a trend in my experience. based on your example i think one of two things:

as they've not had struggle, as it were, maybe they don't feel the need to buck so hard for the approval of whites. on a level or another, they've "made it" so kowtowing to whites is not necessary to them.

the other thought is perhaps to prove that their "success" (monetary or genetic) hasn't changed them or makes them coons/toms/sell outs, or what have you, they feel the need to advertise their pro-blackness more as to be accepted by their own.

*scratches chin*Hmmm. I'm not disagreeing with you.

I always thought it came down to Black people gaining exposure to folk with Black names (and learning that they're as smart if not smarter than them) and education on Black culture and the systematic suppression/shaming of it by whites over time.

Yeah I definitely agree it has a lot to do with education for sure.

It still surprises me when my barely black, green eyed, light skinned friend (like seriously this girl could pass as white )talks about how much she hates white people and coons. Idk why it surprises me, i guess it is just contrary to what i assumed.
