i have tendencies. for me, to really like something is to become consumed with it. depends on the subject, but a big step was accepting and embracing my obsessiveness. usually i'm done after i hear, read, see everything about xyz. 

if not, it was about modifying the behavior with guidelines:  if i catch myself thinking about xyz, employ a thought stopping technique, write down/count how many times i think about xyz and review at the end of the hour, day, week-- whatever with a goal to minimize, allow/make myself to think deliberately about xyz for no more than 5min.
