7 Signs Your Hair Products Aren’t Working For You

With so many products to choose from, how do you know that you’re using the right natural hair product? For the most part, choosing the right natural hair product is a try and error type of thing but there are a few points that will narrow the error i.e. hair type, texture, if your hair is color treated, oily, dry etc.

If you want great hair, it’s not enough getting a generic brand made for everybody. You need a hair product specially made for your hair type and the best way to do so is by reading the description on the product. If doesn’t work for you, just try another one. But how do you know that the hair product you’re using is the right one? Here are the 7 signs to help you identify it:

the_right_natural_hair_product

1. Your shampoo leaves your hair feeling like a brillo pad

Shampoos are meant to clean your hair, not leave it dry and rough. If your shampoo is ripping your hair’s natural oils and leaving it impossible to detangle, that is definitely a sign that you are using the wrong hair product.

2. Your styling product is leaving a white flaky residue

There are several different reasons why your product is leaving a flaky white residue on your hair: hard water, your diet, too much alcohol in the product or you are using too much product. Flaky white residue doesn’t always mean that you are using the wrong product and the only way to find out is trying the different solutions.

3. Your curls/coils are not as defined as you would like

This is a no brainer, right? If your styling product is not delivering the results you are looking for, no matter how many curly girls like it, you are using the wrong product. *Please note: If your hair has an undefined z-pattern, or if it naturally loses its curly/coily texture as it dries, this point is not applicable.

4. You are a retouch junkie

After you wash- detangle-seal-style your hair, you shouldn’t have to reapply the product every few hours, not even everyday. Most hair products activate with water, so just spritz your hair with your water mist and you are good to go.

5. You leave a trace in your pillowcase and anybody that gives you a hug

After your hair is dry, it’s not supposed to be dripping oil or products, this happens for two reasons: 1.-you are using the wrong product or 2.- you are using too much product.

6. You need to use a whole bottle of conditioner to detangle your hair, even though your hair isn’t that long

Yes, we have a lot of hair but we do not need to use a whole bottle of conditioner to detangle. If this is the case for you, more than likely you’re using the wrong product.

7. Your hair takes forever to dry

Glycerin based products attract the moisture in the air, so if the humidity in your city is very high, your hair will take forever to dry. This also means you will need to switch your hair products.

Are there any products out there that signified less than desired results on your hair?

I'll use something separate for hold in the future if I need to and I may try the gel with the red cap.

I swear it never occurred to me to think about slip with leave-in productsLOL maybe its because I only detangle on wash days but im like....really?LOL  maybe i should pay attention to that.

I went and picked up three more. Stern Smile I gave one to my cousin and told her if she don't like it then to give it back. Stern Smile I also got the Let's Jam Protein Styling Gel Mega Hold. The sale is supposed to be BOGO 1/2 off on all Let's Jam products but I was only charged full price for the gel and all three custards were half price. I'm not complaining. It is a regular pink gel. I probably didn't need it. Eco Styler and IC Fantasia Gel do me just fine. I will say I think they should come out with a custard that actually has hold so we can get our detangling, softness, and hold all it one. Or maybe I'm asking for too much. LOL

I put my hair up in a puff. When I woke up today it was pretty much a stretched afro. Not much definition remaining. So the custard has no hold. I still love it as a leave in/moisturizer though. Usually when I put my hair in a puff I have to add water to manipulate it and give it fullness and my puff ends up being a perfectly round compacted fro. Now I'll be able to do stretched braid out/twist out puffs! Yay!

I just looked them up. Oh so they sell their own stuff. I'll have to check out some reviews on kinky hair.
