Just wonderind what everyones racial experiences have been like overseas...

have there been any countries you have visited that you felt alienated in or were blatantly predjudiced against due to your skin colour?

At the same time were there any countries or cities you found were either completely unbiased, multicultural or embraced you?

I haven't really had any racist incidents. But when I was in Budapest, I was very aware of the fact that I looked different. Not in a bad way, but people did stare and I did tell my friend that I was never more aware of my skin color.

When I was in Italy (Florence to be precise) I felt a lil' uncomfortable. I found the constant staring to be extremly rude.

When I was in London I was extremely surprised at the number of "normal/attractive" OLDER interracial couples there were.  It was fantastic.  I'm from an area in the Southern US where interracial relationships have only started to become the norm within the past 5-10 years or so, and this was all novel to me.  I was the one doing all the staring! :)  It's a pretty multicultural city, and used to tons of tourists so it was great.

Traveling around the areas outside of London was a slightly different, but I honestly felt more accepted and comfortable than I often did in my hometown.

I agree with Morningglory, just a different country. I'm in Australia right now and I have never been more aware that I am black....it took me about a month to get used to the constant stares and such, but now I'm used to it. Plus some people treat me like a celebrity, so yay for being the only black person! lol.... fyi: I've been here since July. I go to school in sydney. ~TIP~

oh cool, i live in australia but i have for 5 years... i think some australians are narrow minded and i have experienced racism but its nothing i couldnt deal with.

where in sydney do you live?

im thinking of moving there next year possibly because right now i live on the gold coast and i do love it... i would prefer somewhere like sydney or melbourne.  do you like it there? how long do you intend to stay there?

hands down..Venezuela has to be the most open people about race in my opinion. There are so many different shades of brown there people don't pay attention.

Let's just say that travelling overseas has made me appreciate living in the United States.
