My best friend and most of her immediate family are lighter than me and 100% Nigerian/ Igbo. Cousins and aunts and such range in skin complexion. My best friend in particular has green eyes and blonde-brown hair. I'm sure you don't need to be mixed with anything to be lighter skinned.

i think a lot of igbos are light skinned because they mixed with the missionaries back in the day. explains why a lot of them have english surnames and are catholic. just a guess
| I know it's just a guess but I don't agree at all. What about Christian Yoruba people with euro sounding names though

I swear american people think before any mixing went on everybody in Africa looked exactly the same, then whites came and "brightened" ppl up...
Yeh all black ppl were pitch black, had jungaloo noses, and fat ass cakes...Asses flattened ,noses slimmed as soon as white ppl came into the picture
November Nigerians vary in shade like any other family of color would

There are light skinned and dark skinned in all races, cultures, whatever. What type of answer are you looking for? Genetics?
Hell, I'm dark. My dad is dark. Mom is light and so is my brother. I hated when people asked if we had the same dad.
I'm sure that didn't answer your question but that is my 1 cent of the day.

and I noticed what Africans consider light and what AA's consider light are different...I'm always arguing with an African that i'm not light skinned, if it's not that they are trying to tell me i'm not Yoruba because of my skin tone, it never fails...

First they need to understand, that it is that in the first place | True. I mean take a country like Nigeria which has a lot of different ethnic groups and cultures in one country...you can't even generalise a nation of people, much less a whole freaking continent.

It's like that in every culture. What AA's consider light, Indians consider dark. Just depends.
