I don't know how successful this will be, but I hope others will find this helpful!  Personally, I like falls because they provide a good option if you can't afford a lacefront or weave of if you want to be versatile.  I'm going to rock falls from May until December and need some help on deciding which fall to get!

For the ladies that wear falls regularly, can you post a link to your album (or post a picture here if you prefer)?  Please include:

-Manufacturer (Outre, Sensationnel, etc)
-Style name or number
-Hair type (synthetic or human)
-General comments (how well the texture matched, shedding issues, etc)
-Styling advice (if you have any suggestions)

I appreciate your help. Star

I love falls, I don't have a fotki, but maybe I'll get one together since I've been wearing them so much. I'll put some pics up in a bit. I've tried quite a few of them.

-Manufacturer (Outre, Sensationnel, etc):  Outre and Sensationnel
-Style name or number:  I will have to get back to you on that one

-General comments (how well the texture matched, shedding issues, etc):  I use fray block to prevent shedding, outre and sensationnel match my texture perfectly
-Styling advice (if you have any suggestions):  I like to rollerset and use a medium curling iron for tight curls that fall into waves after a week.  My favorite thing is steam rollers, quick and easy.

Sorry for not knowing, but what are falls?

I also am a fall wearer.... I have one in right now.....here are my top picks... I don't have any pictures though of me...wearing one...but...

Styling advice - wear as close to the top of your hair line as possible...as with any weave the less of your own hair out...the more the illusion is given that is your hair.  Also once attached, pull the sides by your ears forward and secure with bobby pins, I use about 2 on each side in addition to the combs attached to the piece.  When removing, I put my head down ..looking at ones cheast, then I slowly unattach the back comb, feel for the pins, then slowly unattach the top so its falling forward.  These pieces can take back edges out if not careful.

Brand - Outre, Sensational...Links Below. Where to buy - I mostly buy online cause I know the brands I like and I don't like to search for the color or going from BSS to BSS looking for a certain style.

This style I wear with mico indiv. in the front sometimes..cause its long for me to play off as my own hair.  I don't wear this one too close to my hair line cause I leave out about 3 inches for the braids in the front.

The one above, I wear very close to my hair line and its nice.

Here are a few more that I have worn....

Also for me.....my goal is to give the illusion that this is my hair....so when I pick a fall....I wear that same style for a long time....like 2-3 months....I will buy 3 of the same fall and just keep wearing the same style.  I don't switch up....cause for me.....I don't like to be like some where every time you see them they got a different wig on...I like to draw less attention cause of the hair and more attention for my dress, style, and face then...Oh there she go with another wig on...also I'm almost 40 so age makes a difference.

I have worn this one, but for me, to achieve that long sweep in the front I had to bond a track.

This website I like cause it has people's comments about the hair.

This is the one I have in right NOW...
http://www.hairsisters.com/ver2/ViewDetail.php?product_id=520&searchOption=5&viewOption=1&position=4&limit=20&value1=201&value2=0&value3=0&search=0" rel="no follow - http://www.hairsisters.com/ver2/ViewDetail.php?product_id=520&searchOption=5&viewOption=1&position=4&limit=20&value1=201&value2=0&value3=0&search=0

But I have in 1B, and the bottom is a little heavy so I cut it up in layers around the face, since its human hair.  My comments are on this link.

Sunshine...the last link you posted is the one I'm wearing right now (excuse the sleepyfaceLOL):

It blends really well, but I like wearing them off my face with an elastic headband. I want the curls to fall a little, but it looks natural.

My only complaint is that Sensationnel caps are too small for my head, but I do have quite a noggin.Embarrassed

This is one of my faves (Outre's Felicia, in synthetic):

I wore this one while I was on vacation, it didn't shed much, and blended very well.  I wore it for about 2 months, before the ends started frizzing. Pretty much what's expected from synthetic, but it was pretty good overall. I thought it was too straight, but you can't curl it, so now I pretty much go for straighter ones with a little bump or layering at the end.

I got this one from LovelyLisa a while back....I loved it, but I don't wear my hair as curly anymore. I think I got about 3 weeks of wear out of it before it frizzed.

I'll include myself:
Outre
Nita
Synthetic

The hair type is a very believeable synthetic.  It's like Yaki.  Quite a few people thought it was my hair.  I wore my hair slicked down in the front, added the weave and put on a very thin black headband to hide the bump.  I wore that wig for a long time.

This is one I'm definitely getting because I've heard so many good things about it.  I'm a little scared of straight-ish falls though because I bought one that doesn't look good at ALL.  It doesn't blend well with my hair and looks like doll hair to me. Dead I'd hate to buy a $50 wig and hate it, but everyone seems to love this wig.

You are so pretty!  How much of your hair is out?  My hair is only 4-5" in the front so I'm afaid it won't blend as well with a poker straight wig like the Felicia.

And what are you wearing in your avatar?

Thanks Burberry! In that pic, I think maybe a horseshoe is left out, maybe 2-3 inches across, not very much. I usually do it with a headband so I dont have to worry about blending too much.

eta: I think my hair is like 7 inches in the front, so blending isn't too bad. If you're relaxed, I say flat iron and use a polisher or a serum, and if you aren't a good press on that part will do it. And do it the night before and tie down with a silk scarf...very rarely I would sleep with the wig on, and in the morning it looked very well blended.

Anyone worn the Vera or Emily by Outre?  I'm dying to try those.
Ya know, I'm really about to buy $100 worth of fake hair this weekend.  I want at least 3 styles and a phony pony that I can change this summer.  Right now, Gabrielle, Vera, Emily and HZ8003 are on my list!

OK, your hair is longer so that helps.  I will probably just go with a wig with some body or curl to it so my hair will blend better.  Thanks!!

Burberry, the one in my avatar is by Modu....they make great ones. I think the model number is TM-133, it's synthetic.  It's long with really pretty curls, I can't find it online though. Be sure to see if your BSS carries them. They're straight ones and human are nice too.

I own a straight one, that actually looks really good! (Outre Quick Weave- Arista) I ran into my old hair stylist with it on and she was like WOW!  Your hair grew! LOL

I'm just trying to figure out how to get it to stay on my head!  They day I chose to wear it, it was rainy and windy as all get out! LOL  It didn't fly off, frizz or knot up though.

I am glad you ladies are discussing this topic.  I presume that the "falls" that Burberry is referring to are half wigs.  I purchased my first half-wig today.  I bought a Model Model Glance brand wig at my local BSS and I really like it.  This is the one I am wearing...

http://www.hairsisters.com/ver2/LargerImage.php?id=334" rel="no follow - http://www.hairsisters.com/ver2/LargerImage.php?id=334

I just took out my sew-in and am about 18 weeks post relaxer.  I am going to wait a couple of weeks before getting a touch-up so I was looking for a hairstyle to manage with 2+ inches of new growth.  I wore a pony tail for a couple of days but it wasn't the cutest hairstyle.  This half-wig is a perfect alternative and I think I may already be hooked.  The wig is too cute and gives me that "Oprah" look that I was going for.

TiraGirl, you seem to be a connoisseur of the half wig. Star Do you have to do any maintenace to the wigs to keep them looking fresh?

You ladies are great. I have natural hair but pressed so I think yaki texture goes better with my hair. I really want to try these Half wigs/falls. I unfortunately, do not know how to choose but below are the three I am interested in:

What do you guys think? Also they say things like "1b" etc. All I know is that I want dark hair (not jet black but dark) so what color code is that?

Thanks ladies

All of those wigs are really cute.  With a half-wig you will leave a bit of your natural hair out so you wig color should blend with your own hair color.  A 1B is a dark brown.  If you go to a BSS they should have a color swatch and be able to tell you exactly what your hair color is.

@ Chief....I try to preserve the wigs, but I only get about 2-3 weeks with the synthetic. The straight ones last a little longer. I keep them all in a bag (one of those sweater storage bags from the dollar store...) then I spray a wig sheen spray inside of the bag, and store them. If they frizz a little, I cut it off but if it gets too bad I just toss it. They are usually only 20 bucks, so it's not a big deal.  If I was going to the beauty shop every 2 weeks like back in the day, I'd be spending $50 or more every 2 weeks, so I'm still coming out on top.

@ naijah....if you want dark, but not jet black, you might wanna look at either a 1b (which is black) or a 2 (dark brown)...1 is jet black. The second link you posted is the Twila, I have that one, but I don't wear it much because it doesn't really have a lot of shape. I might cut it some this weekend.

So based on Tira's advice, I am thinking that is a 1b.  I am so excited.

Oh Tira, so will you recommend I forgo the Twila then?

One more thing sorry for being neurotic but is there really a diff bet the synthetic and human. I always wear human hair (for braids and weave) but I am now wondering if I need to waste the money on HH if synthetic can do the same.

The Twila just isn't one of my faves, it's more like a back up. I think I'm gonna start sticking with the human hair because it's a pretty good investment overall.

I really like Outre synthetic hair.  I usually do a half-wig with some curls or body so it doesn't matter to me if it's human hair.  However, I do plan to invest in a Sensationnel human hair wig.  The outre synthetic texture is very realistic, though.

The first and third one I have on in my pictures.  I love them both.  You should go with 1b, that the color I wear and it makes perfectly.  I always get so many compliments, people don't believe that it is a wig.

If you hair is natural, I would suggest going with a curlier/wavier than straight type for a more realistic look.  I just shake my head at folks who try to play off a not very well blended half wig.  It's really important to match your base hair color.  Even if you are a 1B and want color.  Try a 1b/? so that it will blend better.  I know that I don't like having to press my edges just to wear the straight look.  Especially if you are trying stay clear of heat.

Yeah, naturalqueen.  I wore the outre nita when my hair was natural and it  looked like my own hair.  I loved that wig.  It was my first half wig.

I am the half wig queen.  I wore them off and on for about a year.  I have had several of the Outre as well as. other brands.  I like to buy my wigs at the BSS, as opposed to online, because I like to try them on.  I don't think that I would order a wig.  I agree with natural hair it's best to go with some curl.  When I was transitioning my hair I would get small cornrows going straight back on an angle and place the wig a little in front of ears.  I had on that looked sort of like the Outre Nita, but it was a diif brand (motown tress).  I also had an Outre Kriste, but I sprayed it  w/ leave in and made the curls look more natural.  I would get so many compliments.  In fact when I went to shop to get my lashes people on the sidewalk came in to see if the girl that was doing my lashes did my hair.  She had the nerve to tell them  that she could give them the same look for $65.00. Confused I am relaxed now, and I am wearing the Fretress San Francisco Girl.  I am loving this hair.  I cut the bangs some, but everyone has been telling me that my hair looks good.  Last night I put my hot rollers in it and now it looks a nice bouncy roller set. Big%20smile

I wear the syt.  and I don't worry about how they hold up, cause around here they only cost $20.00 tops and  if they start to look bad I tossem.Shocked I found some on sale for $10.00.  As far as the color goes if you want some color, you go with the frosted hair.  I always wear 1b/33.  That way it will be 1b at the base, but still have highlights.  I don't know anyone that can wear a 1.  It is so dark and  unflattering.  I bought one by mistake so I am going to spray some streaks on it to lighten it some.

For those who wear these often do the combs tear your hair out over time, or is there a way to prevent this.  I am growing out a short hair cut, and I have worn a half wig once, and I didn't feel it tugging on my hair.  I plan on wearing them more often, but I want to grow hair not lose it.

I have purchased my FIRST half wig after rocking full ones for some time and those combs HURT!  I remember reading on here that the combs are bad, so I just don't tuck them in and put a pin in for security. Sensationnel HZ 8003. Here's a pic (i'm in the middle):

Tati80, how much of your hair is out at the from?  And how long is your hair in the front?  Your hair looks great!

Also, I wore a quick weave for several months and didn't have a problem with the combs.  Could it be that is the cap is too small, the stretching is putting too much stress on the combs which stresses the nape?  My fretress cap (that I only wear on occasion) is a tad small and pulls on my hair a bit.  But I don't wear it a lot.

Thanks tati80.  I couldn't understand how the combs rip ppl's hair out, I don't think I tuvked mine in either, but it still stayed on.

The amount of hair I have out in the front, in my best words, is about as much someone with a bang would have out.  I literally parted my hair in a small rectangular shape at the where my widows peak is.  My sides were braided and pulled back.

I actually did have a full wig years ago with combs and had no problem, so it must be this wig.  The actual cap is too big (and I have a big head), so although I'm afraid it may slip off, I can't put thos combs in.  I just pin it up.

I love half wigs - or what I wear, a "top-piece" which provides a little less coverage but it looks totally natural.  My natural hair is long but very fine,  & very frizzy.  If I wear tracks I still have to spend time styling so my natural hair behaves and doesn't puff up.  With the top piece, it doesn't really matter too much what my natural hair looks like, because the top piece covers all all my hair (the hair length is about 18 inches).

I also went with human hair and I think that's why it looks so natural as well, and it is an exact match to my own hair colour (one of the benefits of human hair, you can dye it to match)

i've been wearing the sensationnel 8003 for almost 2 yrs now off and on, a pic of me wearing it is in my av, i have better pics in my digicam but i need a new usb cable to get em!

the combs have broken off my hair a bit, but i think its a combo of my big head + me not taking care of my hair as much due to my stressful work hours.

i don't leave any of my hair out, i put some gel on my hair & tie it down at night & i put the wig over my hair then put a headband on.

eta: i want to give my hair a break from the combs, so i'm thinking of getting tree braids this summer.

Ya know, I'm really about to buy $100 worth of fake hair this weekend.  I want at least 3 styles and a phony pony that I can change this summer.  Right now, Gabrielle, Vera, Emily and HZ8003 are on my list!

I didnt like that one. it was way to light, not enough hair for me, but maybe it will work for you.

Are you talking about the HZ8003?  I read a few reviews where people said they had to take some tracks out because it was too full.  I'll be sure to try it on instead of buying online.

Burberry,

yes! i read the same thing too, but when I got it 8003, not full at all. I dont know, maybe I just got a big head. Im now wearing a silouette half wig. It's synthetic, but i luv it. I had to cut it, cause the length went down my back. I cut it to mid back, with layers. It was only $20 at the bss so Im happy.

Tiragyrl,

What quick weave are you wearing on your myspace page?  It's like a deep wave curl and you have on a denim shirt.  I love it!

Thanks! If it's deep wave curl, then it's a sew-in, I have yet to find a half-wig in that texture that I like.  The hair is synthetic, but I can't remember the brand. Probably Amy Hair by Aviance since that's what I usually wore when I was still sewing in.

Sidenote: I've been wearing my HZ8003 all weekend, and I'm not that thrilled about it anymore. It's too darn silky for me. I may do another sew-in this week because I'm missing my curls and wavesConfused

I am so late to this post but very intruiged by  the idea.

Question for the experts  -  wuld it be possible to wear a 3/4 wig with a closure? I am thinking of getting a 3/4 wig and closure as my "don't have salon time look"LOL

does this make sense or am i crazy?

I think that it could be possible to have the weave look using a 3/4 wig and a closure. In fact I have been thinking of a very similar idea (3/4 wig with a few clip in pieces on the sides). Since my hair is only ear length on the sides I would need the clip ins to acheive this look I am going for (sorry picture is small)

Hey ladies,

I want to wear a fall, but the hair on the crown of my head is very thin...I'm afraid that it won't set properly.  Does anyone have any suggestions or is anyone in the same boat?

Posted By: ExoticMami

Hi cee jay, is it just the crown of your head that is thin? The way falls work you place them as close to your hairline as possible (for the most natural look) so if your hairline is thicker than your crown you should be OK.

Big%20smile this is exactly what i want my hair to look but with a center part.

so help me understand, when you apply the 3/4 wig, how much of your hair is left out? how much of the edges show?  and are there measuremenst or are they one size fits all?

i don't want to have to blend my hair b/c it's natural and pressing it is starting to show damage.

thanksSmile  this is exciting.  something new to obsess aboutLOL

Thanks ExoticMami for replying...it is only at the crown that is thin.  For most styles I can't do a middle part at all.  My hair closer to the hairline thicker...i'll try it out.

Hi kiki3c

so help me understand, when you apply the 3/4 wig, how much of your hair is left out? I usually wear them with like with no more than an 1" of my left out in the front (this is usually for a going stright back style). This new idea would have me place the 3/4 wig more towards the crown so that I can do a part and add the clips ins on the side.

In your case, you will want to pull the 3/4 wig as close as possible to your hairline...since you plan on wearing a frontal, none of your real hair will be left out (hope this makes sense).

how much of the edges show? It depends on the look I want....you can either part the whole hairline (for the most natural look) or only leave the top center out.

and are there measuremenst or are they one size fits all? Usually these are one size fits most. I notice that the freetress brand has a smaller cap than the other brands I've tried. To me, outre has the biggest cap size.

I wore a fall similar to the Outre HZ8003 on my wedding day - last year, I wore falls on a daily basis. I had at least 6 of them because my hair was shedding and I needed to protect it. I loved the falls becasue they were so natural, no one believed it was a "wig" until I lifted it up and showed them. Unfortunately, I don't have pics of the others but here is a pic of the one I wore at the wedding. Like I said, it's similar to the HZ 8003 but it's synthetic and slightly longer. I never had any problem with shedding once I started wearing the fall. I would sometimes do the baggie underneath. This is the same pic I use for my avatar, but here is a clearer version.

Ok, I just saw this post... perfect timing because I think I'm going to need to let my scalp rest between the EP Wavy and the necessary horseshoe/edge relaxing for the EPRT.  What do you do with your hair underneath a 3/4 wig?  Is there a partial wig cap, do you braid it, what??
Thanks!

You can cornrow your hair just like you would with a weave or baggie it.  You just leave out a bit of your own hair in the front.

Great information sharing ladies.  As for the combs pulling, it might be the size of the head.  If they are hurting, try just bobby pinning where needed.  Mrs.YahYah, can't wait to see pics.

I have to really recommend Modu Anytime True Match 3/4 wigs. i have one that I wore for 3 weeks in January. then threw it in the closet. I pulled it out yesterday, and combed it out....FABULOUS! And it's synthetic. I sprayed it with a little oil sheen, and it's even better now. Very little shedding, shorter combs so that they don't tangle into the hair much. Plus, the front is not as bulky as some other half-wigs, so it looks more natural.

I have been wearing half-wigs since Christmas.  I love them, love, them, love them.  People always think that it's my hair and often ask where did I go to get it done.  I reply, "I do it myself."  Sometimes I reveal my secret and sometimes I do not.  My own hair has grown a alot because I rarely use heat and it is very thick (I am a diabetic and it started to thin out  on one side.  I love the cury ones.  I use the freetress brand and they work well for me.  The styles I have worn are:
(Freetress)
Monorovia
New York Girl (full cap)
Granada
Jamaican Girl

Most are half-wigs that convert into a drawstring ponytail.  When I wear a ponytail.  I style the front of my hair into a hump and add the ponytail piece on the back.  Since headbands and scarves are popular when my hair is in need of a relaxer I wear one and its a really cute style.  I work at a school and we start  at 7 a.m.  This saves me a lot of time.  It takes me less than 5 minutes to style my hair.  The combs do not break out my hair.  I take them out at night and sometimes during the day I baggy my ends.

You know that looks exactly like the one that I am wearing right now.  I don't remember the brand or the name because I had it in my stash for quite awhile before I put it on.  I just know that it is synthetic cause I picked it up for $10.00. Clap I bought the Jean by Outre this weekend and when I went to put it on, I noticed the tag had been removed and put back on and it looked all frizzy back to the store it goes.Angry

Diva D,

How do you like the Outre Emily?  It looks really nice in the picture.  Do the curls hold up?  Is the synthetic texture real looking?  Thanks.

Oh Crap, I can't remember which fall that is I'm wearing in the pic - I actually threw it out a couple weeks ago. I'm planning to buy a new one now that my hair is shedding again. I'll post the model number or name when I find it. I have about a one inch part of my hair out around my hairline...Sometimes I wear only a small piece of my hair out and clip it on top. Like in this pic...

Oh darn, I can't see the pic.  If you find the numer, definitely post it.  I wonder if it's the Emily by Outre?  It looks similar. .

This thread is wonderful. I just stumbled upon half wigs a few days ago when I was in the BSS...my hair is shedding and needs a break so I am thinking about getting a sew in but when I found these 3/4th wigs I'm starting to wonder why I'm just now discovering these.

Pics in my fotki http://public.fotki.com/sorithickulous/" rel="no follow - http://public.fotki.com/sorithickulous/

I can't wait to buy another one.
