Subject: ITCHING!
Date Posted: 20 Oct 2006 at 2:58pm
Ok.  I just got my sew-in on Thursday last week.  And I'm itching under this thing like CRAZY.   (I should also add that I had a run-in with acetone a couple weeks ago and might have burnt my scalp a bit so some itching maybe due to that I don't know anymore i just want it to STOP)

Now, I haven't had a sewin in a while and I do remember it itching in the past.  . .  And nothing helped. Also I used to get micro braids and those itched also so I've bought that braid spray blah blah stuff in the past and the sulfur 8 spray and they didn't really help.  I tried MTG not so much help with the itching.

I just got Organic (by African Pride) Itch Stuff.  http://www.allurebeautysupply.com/AFRICAS-BEST-ORGANICS-Itch-Relief_p_131-443.html" rel="no follow - http://www.allurebeautysupply.com/AFRICAS-BEST-ORGANICS-Itch-Relief_p_131-443.html   And while the ingredients seem really amazing -- like it would make a great pre-poo (seriously)  Its NOT HELPING THE ITCH.

Any ideas?  I'm seriously using a letter opener at my desk at work and poking under my weave with it.  Needless to say at my conservative law firm I'm getting some looks.

Please Help!  Please.

I swear I have a product wasteland -- cause nothing works.  I'm gonna try anything! Everything!  I just can't take it.  I'll rip the tracks out LOL.  I'll check the BSS for Parnevue.

I know someone mentioned at one point Seabreeze -- but I'm scared it'll burn me up like the acetone did -- ( I was using it to remove glue and i thought a good shortcut would be to just pour it on head -- BAD BAD IDEA!)  Tingling like a relaxer left on too long.

Did you wash the weave before installing it cos you might be allergic to whatever they process the hair in.  No it too late now that the hair has been installed just thought you might want to consider washing any hair you want installed first to see if that makes a different. I use Medicated Better Braids Spray  whihc has been good to me.  I hope you find some solution to you problems soon though cos theres nothing worst than itching all the time.

I use the Parnevu braid spray.  It has salicate acid and treat tree oil which help with the itching.  I was dandruff prone even before I got a weave.  I know it says braid spray but all sew ins are are braids with weaves sewn on 'em.  I spray in between the parts and also on the hair...it looks so silky and well conditioned now.  My scalp also feels better.  I am do for a wash this weekend but this spray will tide me over until I can do it.

i had the exact same problem.  and it drove me mad because i workout ALOT and i thought that the weave was gonna have to go.

somethingnew helped me with this formula.  she takes a spray bottle and puts witch hazel and water (not sure of her exact specs but i use 3/4 witch hazel and 1/4 water to dilute.  i added a little jasmine essential oil for smell, but that's optional.)    she told me to keep it in the frig so it is cool on your scalp when i apply.

i spray it on my scalp daily and it works.  but the sea breeze is also good.  i did that first because i did not have witch hazel on hand the night i got the information and i was itching like crazy.  i just squirted the sea breeze right  into my tracks and the itching stopped immediately.  i washed my hair right after though becuase i was scared that the sea breeze would dry my hair out.  it was fine when i took it out this last install. (this is my second weave.  i have a partial.)

the witch hazel works wonders.  as a matter of fact, i just finished working out and i just did sprayed some on.

my next bottle is going to have a couple of drops of tea tree oil as an antiseptic.

i'll let yall know how it works out.

I too workout a whole lot...and it was causing my weave to itch a whole lot...and I mean unbearable at some points http://forum.blackhairmedia.com/smileys/smiley7.gif" rel="no follow -

- -

- - Scalp Relief Antiseptic as advised by Diva and it works wonders.  However, I add a few drops of concentrated tea tree oil that I purchase from a natural foods market here in DC (Whole Foods, Wild Oats).  My dermatologist believes that the CVS, Walmart, BSS brands of tea tree oil may not give u the bang for ur buck.  They're usually dilluted with a bunch of other chemicals, products.

- - Adding drops of tea tree oil not only helps with itch, but smell and prevents any buildup of bacteria and/or fungi in the scalp. Overly scratching your scalp or digging in it with a pointy object is theeeee worst thing you can do for your hair.  (according to my dermatologist).  It’s as if you are opening the door wider for whatever is already irritating your scalp and causing it to itch.

I add a few drops of the tea tree oil to all of the products I use on my scalp.  Shampoo, conditioners and hair oils for my scalp.  It helps to keep the soothing and cooling process going!

Some can't stand the smell, but I love it.  And it keeps my scalp feeling refreshed!  (in addition to reducing the risk of bacteria or fungi forming;)

Also my doc said because the scalp is so sensitive and the skin layers are a bit more thin...sea breeze could possibly generate burning sores and/or dry the root of the hair causing it to break in half.

I tried Witch Hazel before buying the Kimble Product, and the Witch Hazel did nothing for me...but all scalps have personalities of their own I guess.

To stop my "itichies" I have been using braid spray to which I have added some concentrated tea tree oil. I must say that the braid spray alone only temporarily soothes my scalp, but after adding the tea tree oil to the spray I instantly can spell R-E-L-I-E-F.

I have used Sea Breeze to help control my dandruff, but it doesn't do much for my itching. I have also used Kera Kare's Glossifier. The Glossifier moisturizes my scalp and also helps keep the itching to a minimum.

I ordered the kimble scalp spray 3 weeks ago and haven't gotten it. No response from emails and no customer service number on the website either.Unhappy
This was ordered before the holiday rush it doesn't take UPS that long to ship anywhere. I think I'm gonna have Bank of America snatch that money back...

oh I just found a number that is not customer service, but I'm gonna call and complain anywayAngry

I know the feeling!! I just got a sew-in on Sunday and I can't wait to get home and cut it out. I figured out what is itching though....the braid hair!! My natural hair is short so the lady who braided my hair added that bulk braid hair to the cornrows and EVERYWHERE that the braid hair touches my scalp feels like ants are attacking me. The hair is really rough and plastic feeling. I liked the weave but I just can't take it anymore. So my suggestion is to make sure the hair isn't irritating you.

I use bulk hair in my cornrows and my cornrows are smaller this time so maybe that's why I have the itchies this time. I also pulled a little tighter w/ the hope that the braids would last longer. Does adding synthetic hair make your braids itch?

Loved,

synthetic hair can be very itchy and irritating to the scalp, it has lots of alkaline in it.  When I get weaves and a stylist wants to use synthetic in the cornrow as reinforcment, I like to bring my own that I de-alkalize first.  I found this on the net, a while ago and use this method on synthetic hair.

Fill your sink with hot tap water, and add 1 cup apple cider vinegar to the water. Put the hair in the vinegar water solution for 10 mins. Remove the hair and shake out the excess water. Take a spray bottle and mix a combination of water and Infusium 23 leave in. Spray it on the synthetic hair first, then use your braid sheen spray and do the same. Let it dry for a few hours. Your fake hair will feel like your own hair once you're ready to use it.

YOU ARE SOOOOO RIGHT about about the synthetic hair rubbing against your scalp in the cornrows.  Cry  It is an awful, awful feeling.  I now insist thay only human hair is used in my cornrows because the synthetic can be too itchy.
I just used some HH from a BSS that I hadn't used.  Since doing that--NO ITCHING!!!Big%20smileBig%20smileBig%20smile

I use Organic root stilmulators shea butter hair lotion. it's made specially for braids and natural styles, so you can lift the track and apply it directly, the opening it like a cone tip so its made especially for situations like this one.

Why the hell would she add weave to your braids? I dont care how short your hair is, she shouldve told you to wait till your hair was long enough to catch.
