Subject: can a baby wear a bikini?
Date Posted: May 31 2014 at 10:36am
My moms friend gave my 3 year old a bag of bathing suits from her twins. Like 3 of the suits are triangle top bikinis. The bottoms are little, but made for her size. My child's father is like hell no. I'm leaning towards no as well. But then I think it's dumb because she's a baby and it's just a bikini. The rest of the family is like no. R we over reacting?

I'm asking because if we're not going to use them, I'll donate them. No need to have them sitting in a drawer.

Yes.

Yes. Babies are 100% cute & appropriate in a bikini.
I just looked at babies in the triangle bikini and i dont like it at all. no way. I only like the tube/halter/more coverage bikini.

bikinis are adult fashion, imo...but it's rather harmless at the end of the day.

Yes they can, and it's adorable

One pieces are just easier.  The focus on babies should be safety and fun.

No

I wouldnt put a baby in at triangle top bikini

But I dont see a big deal with the ones that are like a crop top

I dont like them, they dont sit right with me. Yes they look cute when you see their little bellies and they're waddling BUTTTTT then i go WTF why is a toddler or under in a bikini? Nope it wont Be Lil Diane 3.5

I'm leaning towards no. If you are going to do a two piece do one with more coverage, not the triangle top bikini.

i feel like if a 6-15 year old can wear one.. whats the issue with a little baby who doesnt even have anything to look at? id feel more of a way about these curious experimental young kids and developing/hormonal preteens who look like theyre 18.

but really its about whatever the parents are comfortable with..

Jessica Simpsons baby.. which I remember being controversial here

Lol, I have a pic of me and my sis in it. Nothing sexual about it. I think its fine

I agree coco. If a pedophile is turned on by my baby at a pool (who will be within my reach the entire time), then I'm thinking he's also gonna be turned on if she has on a 1 piece

I would be more worried if I had a curvy 14 y/o going off to a pool party in a bikini

But, I guess it feels odd when I see 5 yo Mexican kids wearing heels to the grocery store. Maybe y'all feel similar to that

If the bikini causes a bit of apprehension for you both just donate it. There's someone else out there who will make good use of them without a second thought. No muss no fuss.

half the time babies are only wearing a diaper anyway. I don't think it matters but in terms of cuteness, the one piece style seems less awkward and more cute. That's just my opinion though, in the end do what you like.

my cousin just turned 13 and shes had bigger tits than me since she was like 11..
way too much jelly for a bikini for her mom.. i think she can do a tankini though.

but regardless even if she wore a one piece..  if a pedo is into young kids what theyre wearing while swimming will be minimal regardless and they'll look no matter if its shorts, one piece, or bikini…

i remember north west being in a bikini and ppl and/or kanye not liking it…

i dont get it. but whatevs.. its your child.

i dont think this is necessarily about pedos though?  idk...OP, are you worried about pedos or general appropriateness?

when i looked at the google pix of the triangle 2 pcs, i noticed that the babies always look like they are about to slip out of it like a snake, so i think that the swimsuit top would be falling off by the time that they crawl/waddle/run around the kiddie pool or sand for a few hoursLOL

Oh! Nahh, not for a baby. Just doesn't look right. It's actually not cute ( at least in this particular pic). The tankinis are so much cuter and emphasizes the cute pudgy baby bellies. lol!

I think the only reason I wouldn't do it because more skin is exposed, more skin exposed = greater chance of being sunburned.

Your baby so your choice.

For some reason I don't like the ones with ties for the bottoms.

If the triangle is an issue for the tops, you can also use a tank top that matches.

Babies should have that freedom, unfortunately, we also have to consider PERVS

Yes I think they are so adorable especially when they have the little cover ups on with them.

No. Bikini's have a sexual connotation. Why do we continue to sexualize our girls younger and younger? Little girls don't have to look like "little women".

Posted By: melikey

I'm on the fence about other children wearing them but I'm fairly certain I'd pass on those for my baby girl.

I like the 1 piece with a skirt bottom

I think the US is over-sexualized in general. I have never put my daughter in one because I'm paranoid about pedophiles but I did just purchase her a tank-kini.

A two piece is fine but I don't care for the first picture. That's too adult like. The picture above is fine.

It really depends on the swimsuit, some are just ugly and look ridiculous (like the baby in the black/white stripes posted) i think it may be the strings that make it too much.

Posted By: callmeDEva

Nah. My little definitely wouldn't. And it wouldn't be until she's at least 16 before I considered it.

I wouldn't judge another parent though.

Posted By: PurplePhase

sure. The only concern I'd have is skin exposure and sunburn. Other than that, I don't see why not.

Listen to daddy.

Parents' opinion on their child's clothing > everyone else's opinion.

Why does a 3 year old baby need a bikini anyway?

I think it's fine if it's a children's style

I love fat little baby bellies, very cute but should never be sexualized in a string bikini IMO.

@femme, pretty much, yeah lol. It's just weird to me, but I do think she's just a baby. I was also thinking that I don't know what age I'll b comfy with it, but it doesnt have to be now. To the battered women's shelter they will go (the bikinis).

@Ricky, the bikinis are exactly like the little triangle bikinis posted in this thread.

personally i dont like the triangle bikinis, my daughter only wore 1piece or the tankini which shows no stomach just a little back out. My daughter is 10 now and i still have never brought a 2 piece with triangle tops they have to be tank top or tankini. I never knew they make baby bottoms that tie on the side..like really for what

Not string barely there bikinis but that's my humble preference

Ricky, I was asking mostly for the cut off age LOL

I've heard  parents say they don't want their girls wearing them when they're young;  and lawd knows we can't wear them if we're 'too old' LOL

Sounds like there's only about a 10 yr span when bikinis are ok .

i dont think you can be too old for a bikini..

there are some 19 year olds who should never even look that direction in the store.. and some 50 year olds that look great.

lol @ look in the direction.

We had a thread before and it was decided (LOL) that 40 was too old for a bikini.

not just this thread but i hate seeing people try to dress their children like mini adults....then get mad when these kids wanna act like mini adults..

kids need to be kids first...it may be cute and fashionable but its not age appropriate...

13 is the age i would allow it...

40 is young!!  if i can do it, i will wear a bikini well past that age.

Real housewives franchises are full of women 40+ who look great in bikinis whenever they go on those annual trips.  maybe only people over 40 should wear them, it's expected that you can look great in a bikini under that age.

40 isnt too old for a bikini if you look good

there are some childless 40 year olds with banging bodies that look better than some 20s

I would be afraid my baby would eat the beads at that age . My daughter wears the 2 piece like the one with the twins . I wear the bead type sometime with a sheer cover . I like the 2 piece skirt types also . I think the strings and beads make the suit look wrong awkward/ adult like on a baby . I saw a baby at a resort waterpark wearing a g string . SMH .

When my girls were babies I was more consern with sunscreen than a bathing suit. Most times they'd be at the beach wearing just the bathing suit bottoms and I didn't think anything of it but after reading this thread…

Im not concerned with pedophiles looking, they do that regardless.

I was at the beach today and i saw a 7 year old girl with a triangle top bikini little skirt bottom Not cute at all, all her tummy out and legs, swimsuit was ill fitting too. However i saw some maybe 13/14-15/16 years olds and never batted an eye. Then I wondered at what age / body development would i allow my child to wear a two-piece?

lolol i remember a thread with ___ celeb and her kids ____celeb was in a Skimpy swimsuit with her bum out and glamroack said supm like "if y'all think that's risque, you should see me on vacation!"

Love her^^^^

I saw many ppl on the beach today in bikinis with huge bellies, soft bellies, stretchmarks even 2 ladies in the 400+ range in swimsuits (one-pieces) no one garnered a second look (ok 1 of the 400+ had some horrible tattoosDead

ETA I also wondered if the baby one pieces couldnt have the snaps to facilitate diaper changes?
there was the loveliest litlt girl in a one piece with stripes and a little ruffleEmbarrassedEmbarrassed
