I've heard it's worthless....I've also heard it's great.
So I don't know.
I guess it depends on what field you're in.

I didn't use it until I changed companies. I linked with all my old colleagues so I can keep in touch if need be. I'm not linked with anyone in my current company, I know where they are.

Wow, I'm surprised you never heard of linkeIn dior!

I took a class on networking and resumes and my prof stressed the importance of having one. Since, a lot of people have one, the competition for job postings can be rough. But it can allow you to network and connect with companies online. Also, I was taught that when a company google's your name (most do), you want to have a good internet footprint. So a linkedIn should be the first thing to show up.

They keep sending me pointless emails though. It's a little annoying.

I've found it to be helpful. Several head hunters reached out to me after viewing my profile....I just accepted a job offer last week.

It's worthless to me but that's purely because I treated it as worthless by never using it. LOL

When I was first licensed, I gathered the e-mail addresses of all the nurse supervisors on the floors I wanted to work.  I applied for the position and then e-mailed them letting them know that I had applied including the link to my LinkedIn.  I got hired pretty quickly on a very competitive floor day shift which is almost unheard of for new grads out here.  I highly recommend it.

Awesome! Do you mind sharing what field you are in? Also if it is an upper level role?

I've heard these stories a few times and they seem to be tech related, and upper level. Things that are more specialized.

This is what I've heard too

Anytime you go for a job interview lots of employers instantly check to see if you have a LinkedIn page...

I also heard that they can discriminate against you if your have a picture up...and they see that you're black..

I have a page but I need to update it.  Can't say its helpful or not just yet.  Since I will be looking for a job I'm going to take it more seriously...

^^^psych major and that's the thing I don't have much work experience..
I think this is more for people on a professional level..I might not make one after all..we'll see...
The more I research about it..the more I change my mind

You can include other things like volunteering, project planning, coaching, other work experience.  I made mine as a new RN and had not a day of RN experience but a lot of other experience that showed leadership, integrity, etc.  If there's ever a time to be a show off, it's on your resume!  Don't underestimate yourself.  Once you start doing it, other things will come to mind and you'll realize how much of an asset you'd be to a potential employer.

I have one.  I don't quite understand it.  My brother swears by it, though.
