A small boy was beaten to death while attempting to stop an older male who was trying to rape his older sister in South Richmond, Va., http://wtvr.com/2014/05/01/richmond-death/" rel="nofollow - WTVR reports .

An aunt told the news station that the two children, both younger than 13, were playing on the railroad tracks when a man appeared and tried to assault the little girl. Her brother—who was either 8 or 9—tried to protect her but was beaten to death, apparently hit in the head with a brick. She emerged naked, "cut up and beat up," the aunt said. The girl—either age 11 or 12—was taken to the hospital.

An original report described the offender as a white male with scraggly hair, but at some point during the investigation the description changed to a black male teenager. According to police, the girl was "threatened and intimidated by the suspect" into giving false information, the news station reports. A teenager is currently being investigated in connection with the death of the boy.

Richmond Public Schools confirmed that the little boy attended Red Elementary School, WTVR reports. "We are deeply saddened by the tragic loss of one of our Redd Elementary School students, and extend our thoughts and prayers to the victim’s family and friends," an RPS representative wrote. "Our top priority is ensuring the safety and well-being of our students and staff. Crisis counselors are currently in place and will continue to be made available to support our Redd Elementary School family and community during this difficult time."

This is exactly what I was thinking. People need to start protecting their children instead of letting them just roam free (especially on railroad tracks) There's soo many sick monsters out their that get satisfaction out f hurting innocent children. May God Bless the little boy and his sister. Cry

That is so sad.  I agree with a few others that parents need to watch their young children.  It doesn't make any sense for these two kids to be wandering around without adult supervision.

That little boy was a hero Broken Heart.  RIP and I hope the sister recovers from this.

like others, i also used to play outside a lot...everyday...it would be several of us walking to the park 6 blocks away and nothing ever happened...my mom says it was nothing for them to hitchhike in the 60s...but i watch all of those old cold case shows, datelines, etc...and i wonder what the real facts are about child abduction numbers.  are children really more at risk now than back then?  i guess i'll have to google to see how much of an increase there has been.

I would go selling girl scout cookies by myself in the 5th/6th grades door to door...no way would I let a daughter if I had one do that.

I walk my 8 y/o to his friends house around the corner because you just can't trust that there isn't a pervert lurking anywhere even in your own neighborhood.

I honestly ignored those comments bc I can't call this as a case of neglect--and it's tantamount to blaming the victim.  I thought it was a small community where kids probably play outside, and you also don't know how far they lived from the train tracks. I mean my parents only let my sisters play in the yard but honestly this man could have attacked anybody anywhere.  I mean kids in NY take public transportation to go to school---should they not?  Those kids probably come into contact with more people than those kids in VA do.

Cruel and unusual punishment ftw!

Those poor babies...I can't imagine what that family must be going thru right now.

We definitely had a lot more freedom when I was a kid, but I could never imagine letting a child do some of the things we did in this day and age. I don't know if it's just a sicker, sadder world today, or if my mother was just really good at shielding us from stuff like this.

RIP lil protector!

but what's "funny" is that u can track your kids now better than back then.  Kids these days more likely have cellphones or some other device that can be tracked.  What did we have as kids from 60's to the 80'?  U had to be "grown" to have had a pager.  We had nothing really.  kids could go missing with no chance at ever being found back then.  I'm sure there  are cold cases from 20-30 years ago that will never be solved.  It makes me think of The Lovely Bones.  That girl disappeared and there was no trace.

Agreed Epitome.  I see some young kids commuting to school when I leave work in the morning.  I hate that these laws seemed to geared towards protecting the rights of fuccin' criminals and miscreants.  But these same laws don't apply when innocent black folks get caught up but that's another thread. Kinda like how "everyone" was concerned about that inmate who suffered during his execution.  really?  the only person I feel bad for is the family that criminal fucced up and the executioner who had to witness that.  I do not lose humanity over enjoying the pain of muthafuccas who deserve it!  I gain full life and a whole heart piece!

Sorry to go on a mini tangent but i'm just so sick of evil just winning.  Judges are corrupt, police are corrupt, the system is corrupt.  I'm sometimes think the sh*t is too far gone to ever come back to a semblance of fair.

IA a monster is a monster but race does matter when we all know that if he's white they'll go easy on him in comparison to how they would punish him if he were black.

Martin Cobb, 8, killed in Virginia protecting sister from attack by older teen, police say

The 8-year-old, Martin Cobb, was reportedly hit in the head with a brick during the attack near their home Thursday, neighbors told  http://bit.ly/1kzZKQE" rel="nofollow - The Richmond Times Dispatch . Richmond Deputy Commonwealth's Attorney Mary E. Langer said she could not confirm a brick was used but police told her Martin suffered severe head trauma.

A prayer-filled vigil at Abundant Life Church on Richmond's south side saw friends and family of Marty Cobb joined by city officials

VIDEO: Prayer vigil for Martin Cobb, 8
The 12-year-old girl was taken to a hospital, but her injuries were not released by police. "As far as I know, she's doing fine. . She's doing better. She's OK," the siblings' aunt Geraldine Pitchford told the newspaper.

The 16-year-old boy was charged with murder and strangulation, police said in a news release. Authorities said he intimidated and threatened the girl and she initially gave authorities the wrong description of her attacker. Police did not immediately return a telephone message from The Associated Press.

Authorities were not identifying the teen because of his age. The AP also generally does not identify juveniles charged with crimes.

Pitchford described Martin as warm-hearted and friendly and said he was often playing with his sister outside.

"I'm proud of him. I'm proud that he stuck up for his sister. He did what he was taught," she said.

Pastor Dr. Theodore L. Hughey of the Abundant Life church said the boy, also known as "Marty" and "Little Martin," and his sister were inseparable and "always in and out" of the church.

"You saw one. The other was there. They were never apart," Hughey said.

Hundreds of people attended a vigil for Martin on Saturday night.

"He had a heart of a lion," said neighbor Andrew Patillo. "He stood so tall, to be so small."

Before the vigil began, loved ones gathered around a sign in Martin's yard near the church. "Martin: A real hero lived, fought and died here," the sign said.

So sad. In my opinion kids and adults aren't safe nowadays. Kids weren't safe back in the day or now. We live in a sick world you can't trust anyone even the people who look normal. When I was in middle school a an obese white man with no shirt in a mini-van asked me if I wanted a ride home. I hauled ass screaming "STRANGER STRANGER". Another incident when I was little was when I was in 6th grade and a classmate and her brother disappeared that Summer. They found their remains in some field that fall surrounded by dead chickens. I can't recall if they ever found the killer but I think they said dna linked the killer to a cab driver.
