A 31-year-old Chicago man was ordered held in lieu of $750,000 bail today after being charged with failing to reveal to his girlfriend that he had HIV who later tested positive for the virus, prosecutors said.

Johanson Little of the 4400 block of South State Street dated the victim who is his ex-girlfriend between June 1, 2012 and June 1, 2013, said Steve Campbell, a spokesman for the Cook County State's Attorney's Office.

In February, about eight months after the relationship with Little, the woman went for a physical examination which included an HIV test and was notified that she was HIV positive, Campbell said.

The woman said she did not have sexual relations with anyone since she ended the relationship with Little and did not have any sexual partners except for Little during their year-long relationship, Campbell said.

The victim then learned from members of Little's deceased wife's family that the woman had previously died of complications from AIDS, according to prosecutors.

Little had previously told the victim that his wife had died of ovarian cancer and when the victim confronted Little he admitted that he knew he was HIV positive when they had sex, Campbell said.

Little has been HIV positive since 2003, prosecutors said.

"He admitted that he knew of his HIV status at the time that he was having a sexual relationship with the victim but did not want to tell her," Campbell said.

He was charged with criminal transmission of HIV, a class 2 felony, Campbell said. Judge James Brown ordered Little held on $750,000 bail.,0,4683942.story" rel="nofollow -,4683942.story

No 8 months after the relationship.

Article doesn't state how long they were dating.

In this day and age, people are still having unprotected sex without insisting on STD testing. I feel bad for her but that was very, very stupid.

its probably more surprising to me that you dont here about these cases more often.  i mean people are insecure about all sorts of things and suddenly when it comes to sex we expect women to have a sense of awareness that theyve never been properly taught to have.

This is not the first time I've heard of a man doing this; I was watching ID and they had a story about a white man from in the 80's.  It's terrible.

there is NO protected SEX!
"Saying that the use of condoms is ‘safe sex’ is in fact playing Russian roulette. A lot of people will die in this dangerous game."

Don't understand why people don't get tested before they have sex with somebody. Could've been prevented. You are a grown ass woman/man, not some teenagers, get tested.

He's a public hazard.
When people are proven guilty of intentionally transmiting the virus, part of their sentence should be that they are placed on a registry like other sex offenders.
