Smartphones might be responsible for the sexting phenomenon but plenty of people pay more attention to their mobile than their partner.

A new poll has found that some U.S. adults think mobile phones are more important than sex.

And internet access, cars, laptops and TV are also rated to be more essential too.

ust 20 per cent of 2,210 adults polled in the U.S. last summer said they could not live without some bedroom action, while 26 per cent of people said they couldn't manage without their smartphone.

Food was considered to be the most important category, but eight per cent of people admitted they could not live without their sat-nav, seven per cent without social networking sites and six per cent without their tablet computer.

The study, by http://www.harrisinteractive.com/NewsRoom/HarrisPolls/tabid/447/ctl/ReadCustom%20Default/mid/1508/ArticleId/1373/Default.aspx" rel="nofollow - Harris Interactive found that almost three quarters of adults said technology enriches their quality of life.

Almost half of people believe it improves their relationships with friends and boosts their social life.

Just under half use technology as a means to escape their busy life, while the study found that almost 40 per cent of those polled think it makes them happier.

However, 69 per cent of the adults admitted it is too distracting – which might account for people making time for their phone over their partner.

Almost 70 per cent of people accused smartphones and tablets, as well as other technologies, of ‘corrupting interpersonal relationships’.

A study last year found that one in 10 Americans admitted to writing a text or answering a call during sex, http://mashable.com/2014/02/05/smartphone-sex-chart/?utm_campaign=Mash-Prod-RSS-Feedburner-All-Partial&utm_cid=Mash-Prod-RSS-Feedburner-All-Partial&utm_medium=feed&utm_source=rss&utm_reader=feedly" rel="nofollow - Mashable reported.

However, while technology might be distracting people from the act itself, more people than ever before are sending sexts to titillate their partners remotely.

A study by McAfee revealed this week that a quarter of Britons plan on sending a racy or explicit message before Valentine’s day and just over half of adults who have received a sext still have it stored on their smartphone.

A U.S. version of the study also revealed that 16 per cent of Americans have sent a sext to a stranger.
