W.T.F.!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

They said an inch, now it's like 3 or 4, and it ain't lettin' up.  Lookin' like a mini-blizzard right now.  None of the roads have been treated - GA DOT needs to get their ish together.  Cars sliding and stranded in the middle of the highway.  I've been stranded all day and didn't even drive today.  Wandered all over the damn city trying to get home.  Got less than 2 miles away and still couldn't get home.  Had to go to the airport to try and get a cab.  50 people waiting, 5 cabs.

I'm over it.

3 or 4?! It was like an inch earlier and the city was shut down with traffic jams, no gas, etc according to the news.

They failed to mention that the roads were not prepared in advance.Geek

They didn't cancel school until the very last minute...FCS called at 1:45 to announce that school would be closing at 1:45. By that time the roads were horrible.

So many kids will have to spend the night at school because their parents can't get to them. At my son school they are sending out updates. As of right now (8pm) only 2 buses have made it to the school.

Fulton cCounty was wrong for that seeing the roads were so bad there. They just showed an accident involving a school bus on TV. It isn't bad but they don't know if any kids are on the bus.

We are in Gwinnett and my kids came home on time.

i knew i wasn't stepping my foot in Fulton County beginning at 7 am so i didn't even try.  We are about to walk to the gas station next door b/c we don't feel like having to do any u-turns on a major street and we also just wanna get out in the snow.

Hubby had to push his car. He still ain't homeCry. I left work since 12 and made it home in 20 mins before it got bad. He had to pull over to buy a charger off 75.

Kids kept begging me to go play outside. I kept saying no its cold outside. Then their friend came" Can the boys come out to play" all of them begging me. I finally gave in and they were outside all of 12 minutes before they told their friend to go home and all came inside. LOL

From Last Winter in Toronto, this is about 25cm (12-13 inches) which is really not a lot, but it was the most snow that we had in years.

These were taking in Nov. 2013 in Ottawa. About 30cm (about 15 inches). I was standing at the bus stop on my way to work.

This is all the snow what was plowed around my work. This was taken in December. The pile is much higher now.

My boo didn't touch the gas I was yelling don't brake the whole ride. She actually told me to shutup at one point lol. I swear couldn't have been me driving because I was going to join Elizabeth on the passenger side.

I was turned sideways holding on to the handle in the front and the back. She kept saying babe we're almost home just breathe.

It was icy, a lot of cars couldn't move forward, accidents, chaos.

It's not the snow, its the ice and from the original weather reports it was only supposed to snow in central to southern Georgia and wouldn't move in until about 4pm.  About 2am, the report switched and said it would be covering most of Metro Atlanta and would start at 9am.

Unfortunately, the metro area didn't get the message in a timely fashion to see that mother nature wasn't bullsh*ttin' and everybody tried to leave all at once. Either way....ATL needs to accept the fact it snows here now and just brace for whatever.

Thankfully, my school system only had to teachers to report and once the first snowflake fell they gave us free.

It wouldn't be me stuck at those schools with those kids because i would have personally started walking their bad asses home myself.

I love how Northerns laugh at Southerners when we get snow. Welp, truth is we don't get it often and don't drive in it so there goes tons of wrecks, accidents, etc.

My co-worker laughed because she from NYC and was like "Oh ya'll shutting down schools and business for 1/2 inch of sleet ice, snow. We get like 12 inches all the time. Get over it."   I told her "Yup, it's like how I hear you complain any and every spring to summer about the heat in Texas. It's only sun and heat at about 98 - 105 degrees. Get over it"

1000 kids combined stuck at the 2 HS in my area. Parents are complaining that they don't know where their children are. Buses left 5+ hours ago and the kids still aren't home. Of course every number you call just rings.

Carolina-

I had to explain to her the last time I saw snow/sleet/ice in Houston was my freshman year in high school (over 20 years ago). Not sure why one would expect me (or any native southerner) to know how to drive cautiously in something I (or they) see every 15 to 20 years.

We found out a few years ago Texas doesn't even carry snow tires/chains because we wanted to drive to Pennsylvania to see his folks. They guy was like "What? I guess we can special order them."

this caught me totally off-guard.

i saw a few snow flakes falling first thing this morning and thought "awwww... that's cute"...

then i started to work on my projects. a few hrs. later, i turn on the tv and every channel was talking about the snow - so i opened my blinds like "oh ok wow... let me run to the grocery store real quick - doesn't look that bad"....

i didn't even make it out of my sub-division... the traffic on the main road was backed up with cars turned facing the wrong way... and people were walking... and i was like "why in the heck are they walking???"...

so i made a u-turn and came back in the house... it took me a few mins to make the uturn bcz i had to do it on a hill - nervous as hell - but i did it. Thumbs Up

CRAZY

I read someone post explaining how it's ICE affecting the area. Between that and sugas missing hubby my conscious was eating at me. Sorry ladies. Truly didn't mean to be flippant.

If it was snow....yah. Sue me I would stand by my snark.

But Ice ain't nothing nice

Please be safe. Suva when I exeprienced snowmageddon I was stranded for hours. Goodness eventually prevailed so I'm sure hubby will be home shortly * hugs *

a lot of people that i know had to abandon their cars after the 6th hour and walk 3-4miles home. I cant imagine that they had the proper layers/hats/boots on. One of my friend's mother is still driving and it has been over 8 hours, plus when she does reach her subdivision, he mentioned that she will have to park at the gate and walk to her house. I hope that she has just checked into a hotel somewhere. This is so sad. I cant stop thinking of all of the kids stranded at day care, elderly people on the road and people in the car for hours without their medication, food, water, etc...the people that needed to catch a bus to work and are stranded there with no bus service to return home and the homeless people that are not able to walk to a shelter.

he just called one of the guys at the office to go pick him up. He was somewhere on Shallowford road. He will stay at his co-worker house tonight per the advice of the police. They said its super dangerous and no one is moving anywhere on the streets now.  So Suga can now sleep. Thanks guysHug

The priority now is to get stranded motorist in a shelter. If he's in the sandy springs area PM me. The mayor announced multiple shelters that have opened.

The national guard is being deployed an they are urging people to not fall asleep in the car.

I know someone who left work at 2 and she still isn't home. School buses are stranded with children on them

It's so many things that factor into where we are now...complete chaos

The snowedoutatlanta Facebook page is so freakin sad....so many people stranded and looking for shelter

Hi You Guys,
I logged in to say I hope everyone in the ATL area is safe as possible. My team left work around lunch. Of 19, only 14 are home as of 1AM. 1 at Target and 1 at home depot. I rented a room in Stone Mountain for one of my elder employees on my card and two other I have been unable to reach.

It took me a little over 6.5 hours to make it home. I saw cars slide backwards down hills/across bridges. A man was trying to cross Northside Drive and a car slid into him coming to a stop at the light. Thanks Goodness he got up and limped to the gas station.

I was in Chicago for over three years, Blizzard of 2011 and all that but the difference I noticed is that:

A) the number of people involved, since it's virtually impossible to survive in ATL without a car unlike Chi and NYC, played a major role in the chaos. There were literally parking lot like situations on every interstate and service road. Public transit doesn't really afford people the option to get home any other way than attempt to drive or walk...

B) ATL was/is not prepared. Schools, particularly APS and GCS should have followed suit if the surrounding counties and just bit the bullet. I saw someone said that snow is uncommon. In the years I was here before, never experienced ice like this. Snow is annoying. Ice is deadly.

C) The children involved make it such a sensitive case. My coworker said she will not go home without getting to her son. He sent pics of them sitting around at his school and said kids were crying for their parents. He is 8.

I pray for all those involved. People walking in the cold, kids/parents separated and those still sitting on the roads waiting to get home.

Unhappy

I don't like it at all.

Wow as a mom I'd be worried as heck to know my was 4 year old was stranded on a bus. Those kids are probably hunger, crank, cold, etc.

Everyone knows school bus don't provide sufficient heat to keep an entire bus warm. In high school, we also brought extra blankets to keep warm on traveling trips.

It was ice here in the Houston area and the schools, daycares, etc closed down. It iced here last week and they showed cars crashing into bridges, road blocks, other vehicles, etc.. They had over 800 accidents before 12 pm last week when it iced.   Houston mayor was like stay at home if you don't have to go out, don't.

Hey ND. I agree, I even called all area Marriott's and Sheraton's in my work vicinity  around 3pm to book rooms for my team and myself and everything was booked solid.

When it starting snowing around 12pm, i would not have imagined it would turn into ice so quickly with so many people on the roads. Ouch

You summed it up well Moody. The babies is what is really upsetting me. Kids stranded on buses and cell phones are dead. Parents are worried sick. Police aren't responding to car accidents with less than 2 vehicles involved. Can't get through to 911. It is a complete mess
