The way the media is covering this story is entirely too creepy. All this is related to that story of that Black woman who was fired from Hooters. The Media acts like Blond hair is liquid gold growing out the scalps of their precious women. Everything about this story just feels wrong

This Story of the 'Blonde Angel' Living with Roma Parents Just Sucks

http://jezebel.com/yikes-1450379579" rel="nofollow - 1 http://jezebel.com/they-dyed-her-hair-black-and-its-growing-out-1450402514" rel="nofollow - 2 http://jezebel.com/just-do-it-no-thank-you-1450450752" rel="nofollow - 3

Last week, Greek police, searching a Roma family's home during an unrelated criminal investigation, came across a pale, tow-headed little girl among the family's gaggle of dark-haired, dark-skinned children. Immediately, they were like, "HOW DID THIS GET HERE," and swept the girl up into protective custody. DNA tests confirmed that the child was not biologically related to her Roma family, but the parents claim they adopted (or, were "given") her legally.

Authorities, concerned that the girl had been kidnapped and trafficked, have http://www.cbsnews.com/8301-505263_162-57608390/who-are-the-parents-of-the-blond-girl-in-the-gypsy-camp/" rel="nofollow - launched an international campaign to reunite the "blonde angel" with her birth family. The Roma parents have been arrested for abducting a minor.

Then, yesterday, another blonde child was http://world.time.com/2013/10/22/another-blonde-girl-removed-from-roma-family/" rel="nofollow - removed from a Roma family in Dublin .

The cultural complexities here are daunting. "We noticed your kid didn't look like you, so we took it" seems like it http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-2328828/A-white-dad-suspected-kidnapping-biracial-daughters-following-family-trip-Walmart.html" rel="nofollow - sets a bonkers precedent . People are notorious sh*theads to Roma communities (anecdotally, when I was in Romania, I was told explicitly that Roma be rs are less than human), and the glee with which these families are being vilified (their crimes still unproven, by the way) feels like it's as much about feeding racist stereotypes as it is about caring for children.

Qristina at Golden Zephyr http://golden-zephyr.com/its-all-greek-to-me/" rel="nofollow - writes :

The Greek child, "Maria" as case workers have called her, was found, according to Smile of the Child spokesman Panagiotis Pardalis, "amid bad living conditions, poor hygiene." It strikes me as ironic that police and charity workers are using the living conditions at the Farsala camp as proof that Maria was abducted. Conditions in most Roma camps consist of "bad living conditions, poor hygiene."

...Yet, the case of little "Maria" is being heralded as a substantiation of "child stealing lying Gypsy" stereotypes. There has been no question of why [armed] police repeatedly raided Romani camps and why Maria was removed simply for being blonde. There are many blonde-haired, blue-eyed Roma out there, none of whom are marched away by the police because they are "strikingly different" or as Fox News reporter Greg Palkot stated, "look nothing like [their] Gypsy parents."

And the European Roma Rights Centre has http://www.errc.org/article/errc-urges-restraint-and-responsible-reporting-in-child-removal-cases/4212" rel="nofollow - urged the media to exercise caution when reporting on such child removal cases:

Criminality is not related to ethnicity. Roma children are, however, much more likely to be put into state care, trapped in segregated education, and forcibly evicted from their homes. These are the stories that don’t make it to the front page.

We urge restraint, and we urge all local authorities, media outlets and other stakeholders to fully examine the facts before acting.

Exceedingly troubling here is the beatification of the girls' blondness—the way it's so obviously being used as a signifier of worth, as though it's somehow more of a crime to traffic a pale child than a dark one. It's a jarring distillation of http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Missing_white_woman_syndrome" rel="nofollow - Missing White Woman Syndrome . Is anyone concerned about the parentage and safety of the other, black-haired children in these families' care—if, as has been reported, they have other illegally adopted children? Is anyone concerned about entire communities of human beings living in poverty and squalor? (A story out of Mexico last year http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-2224269/Photo-kidnapped-blonde-girl-begging-sparks-uproar-Mexico-government-tears-child-family-amid-backlash-racist-profiling.html" rel="nofollow - raised similar questions .)

Yes, of course, kidnapping should be investigated. If these little girls were kidnapped and can now be returned to their birth families, there is some good in that outcome. But regardless of specific circumstances in these cases, the broader implications—the assumptions we make about historically marginalized groups and http://jezebel.com/the-heartbreaking-story-of-a-native-american-adoption-g-474984103" rel="nofollow - their fitness to raise their own children —are discouraging.

Here's Tunku Varadarajan http://www.thedailybeast.com/articles/2013/10/22/rescued-by-racism-the-blonde-maria-and-the-dark-roma.html" rel="nofollow - at the Daily Beast :

I am far from hysterical about matters of race, and I pray that this child is restored to her biological parents (assuming they are alive). It goes without saying that I feel for the child: I find her portrait disturbing. She looks fragile, scared, and unhealthy: It is easy to imagine trauma behind those blue eyes. But this story has made me very queasy. Without condoning the Roma couple at the center of this international genetic mystery (who seem, by most accounts, to be dodgy people, found to be in possession of weapons and balaclavas), I was struck by the alacrity with which the official mind raced from mere observation to damning conclusion, the alacrity with which an international incident flared up in the space of a few hours—all because a blonde child was found in the custody of dark, Roma parents. A very dark-skinned kid in the keep of blonde people is part of the natural order, proof, in fact, of benevolence, of the bigheartedness of the adoption process. But the converse—as is Maria’s case—is not merely fishy, it is almost inconceivable. What is wrong with this picture? Everything.

At play here is a swarm of feelings, prejudices, instincts, paranoia—many age-old and atavistic—that most civilized people in the West (and many civilized people in other parts of the world) have taught themselves to suppress. The leap to racial conclusions, when it occurs, is a disconcerting impulse, particularly so when (as in the case of blonde Maria and her Roma “parents”) the leap is so unabashed, so artless, so unreflecting.

It's clear that something has gone terribly wrong here, perhaps on all sides. But at the very least, I hope these little girls' stories end justly and well. And that people following these stories become a little more cognizant of the fact that all kids have value—not just the blonde ones.

I can see the pain in that baby eyes . CNN video shows how the people snatch the little boy they claim arm hard enough to break it . The poor child only wave at the camera . Many parents of missing children are claiming the little girl looks like the baby they lost . Pray the child is place with a family that loves her .

Ireland returns 2 blond children to Gypsy parents

http://www.ap.org/" rel="nofollow">Associated Press
By SHAWN POGATCHNIK 3 hours ago

DUBLIN (AP) — Two blond children who were taken by Irish police from their Romanian Gypsy parents were returned Wednesday to their families after DNA tests determined that the children were rightfully theirs, an episode that raised accusations of racism.

The Irish police were responding to public tipoffs fueled by media coverage of an alleged child-abduction case in Greece involving a blond-haired girl and a family of Gypsies, known as Roma.

Justice Minister Alan Shatter told lawmakers he was "pleased and relieved" that the children had been returned to their homes. He ordered the police commander, Commissioner Martin Callinan, to produce a report explaining why officers felt it necessary to take the children — a 2-year-old boy and a 7-year-old girl — from their families.

"We must all be particularly conscious of the regrettable distress that arose for the two families and their children," Shatter said.

He defended the need for police and child welfare officers to remove children from potentially dangerous homes, but cautioned that Irish authorities must ensure "that no group or minority community is singled out for unwarranted suspicion in relation to child protection issues."

In both cases, police suspected that the children might be victims of abductions because they were blond-haired and blue-eyed, unlike the rest of their immediate relatives.

An estimated 5,000 Roma have settled over the past decade in Ireland, where many have been linked to organized street-begging rackets involving children.

On Monday, police went to one Roma family's home in southwest Dublin and sought the passport and birth certificate of the girl. The family produced them, but police opted to issue an emergency child protection order and place the child in state care. Police said the Romanian passport was not useful because it had a baby photo, not the girl's current appearance, while the birth certificate did not match Dublin hospital records.

On Tuesday, police in the midlands town of Athlone went to another Roma family's home and asked both parents to provide mouth-swab samples from their son and themselves. The boy then was taken away by social workers overnight and returned the next day after the child's parentage was confirmed.

Irish child protection law prohibits the publication of the names of either family because their cases involve the placement of children into state protective custody.

The Athlone family's father told reporters he had assured police that other relatives also had blond hair and blue eyes. He said his wife couldn't sleep all night and the boy's older sister cried much of the night.

The Dublin family's lawyer, Waheed Mudah, issued a statement outside the Family Court accusing the police of acting without justifiable cause.

Mudah said his clients were "very conscious of the fact that this case has been linked" with the Greek child-abduction case, "which has nothing to do with them."

He said his clients hoped parents across Ireland would "consider how they would feel if one of their children was taken away in similar circumstances for similar reasons. They hope no other family has to go through the experience they have suffered."

Pavee Point, a Dublin-based support group for Gypsies, said the police were guilty of racial profiling and child abduction.

The group's co-director, Martin Collins, said he feared that more children "of Roma parents who are not dark-skinned and have brown eyes could be taken away, one after the other, for DNA test after DNA test. It's outrageous. It's despicable."

Ireland's national police, the Garda Siochana, confirmed that both children were returned to their families Wednesday. In a statement the force defended its actions as consistent with child-protection laws, and said the public should be assured "that we take extremely serious(ly) all reports received from members of the public concerning child welfare issues."

CNN reported that amount whe the story first came out . Other news reports half of the amount .
The Gypsy camp suspects, Eleftheria Dimopoulou, 40, and Christos Salis, 39, received more than 2,500 euros ($3,420) in monthly welfare payments after declaring they had 14 children, eight of whom are unaccounted for and presumed not to exist, authorities said. They were jailed on charges of abduction and document fraud.

If her living conditions were bad, then why didn't they take the other kids too? Guess they only want the white girl to live better.

So they didn't take the other kids, but the blond hair one though. They were hoping she wouldn't reproduced with the gypsies.

Yes afro. Coworker and I were discussing like whatever happened to xyx. I remembered this thread and googled trying find out what happened to the accused "parents". It's like the story just stopped once the confirmation was made she wasn't stolen.
