Subject: How do you pull of kinky curly hair?`

If you wear it everyday, how do you make it so that it looks as if that's your natural hair? You know how some girls with naturally curly hair wear their hair curly everyday? Before my curly hair was damaged, I wore it natural a lot and felt comfortable. But for some reason, when I wear curly hair that's not mines but matches my texture or is too big, I feel like it's obvious it's fake (because it looks TOO perfect) and that I can't pull it off, no matter how virgin it is. Any tips? :/

I plan to glue down a KC full lace wig for the most natural look, but thought I'd ask here because kinky curly hair is prob more frequent in the weave section.

By the way ... these thumbnails are what I mean by curly hair looking fake, unnatural, etc. It looks good on them and on other women I'm sure, but I guess because I had natural hair and compare it to this, I feel it just doesn't look right. Sorry if it's confusing!

I usually keep my kc to my GOAL length. I recently graduated to 24 in kc, but it was gradual for me so it seemed as if my hair was growing. I dont wear my kc defined because I dont wear my real hair defined. I try to keep my weave and natural hair on the same wave lengths. Here are a various of my kc styles. I am also including a pic of my real hair

I try to match my kc to my hair when it is product free or my true texture. I am a type 4 through and through and I want my.weaves to reflect it.

I increased my kc length as my hair grew. The hair pics I posted are 2 years old, so my hair is longer now. Thus, I got longer kc.

OP, I think it's just YOUR opinion that the KC looks fake on those people, because I think most of the women in those thumbnails have very natural looking KC installs. If it doesn't look natural when you wear it, you should check your blending technique... Or mayb KC is just not the texture for your face type/style of dress.

I have BSL hair that is about SL when curly. I wear KC with no problem, and most people believe it's my hair. I usually wear KC in lengths between 18"-22".  I think it's all about the flatness of the install and the versatility in how the tracks are laid.

Agreed. You see how KurlieBeautie and I both wear KC, but it looks different YET both are extremely natural. It has to be suitable to you. I wear my KC in-lines with how I have worn my hair for years. I never cared for perfectly coiffed hair. While I was relaxed, I wore messy roller sets. I prefer how big hair fits my frame. I've always had a Chaka Khan and Diana Ross flare since I was younger. Straight hair on me looks fake. Even when I was a kid with my hair pressed out, it didn't look right TO ME. I hated straight hair since the age of 5. I know how my hair looks freshly washed and styled, twisted, frizzy, blow dried, stretched, curled, picked, etc. So I make my weave mimic it.

AmandaKay, what is the best hair for the undefined look? (AAMH, KCY etc) and which would last longer?

I am having serious hair envy right now !! too bad I am relaxed, blending would be a nightmare Cry

So for me as soon as I went natural I started wearing 20in but the trick was flat twisting my hair in the direction of how I wanted it to lay and also making sure if I wanted a deep wave than I make the flat twist bigger or if I wanted crinkles make the flat twist small. I'm 4a 4b but I can pretty much get it to blend as long as I follow those rules.

This one was a wash and go

Now to make it look more real to other I would just follow Amanda's advice gradually go up in inches that way it looks like its growing and go with a texture close to yours.

Hi,

I had so many problems with blending, the technique alexiscymone and missbossy uses is what worked for me.

I usually don't put anything on the weave hair unless its really old hair than I will add some type of light oil to help and for my own hair I used Shea butter n alil bit of Eco styler.

As far as my braiding pattern I do a half circle from side to back to the other side and the rest straight back.

For that particular install (and most installs) I had a circle with 1 cm perimeter and a u-shaped portion about 2" wide out in top.

My only question is how do you guys combat big foreheads? Stern Smile

I have a five head so wearing a side part is out of the question.  I want curly hair bangs, BUT like I've mentioned before I'm in the Air Force, so IDK if it's possible to get a sew in & have bangs & still be able to pull those bangs back when I have to wear it in a bun for work.

Sigh.

I want to share the hair cares from an hair extension website.
1:Please use big round head comb with wide space and acidic shampoo and hair conditioner. But don't explose the hair exntensions under the sun for a long time or too close to the root when dry with a blower.
2:please don't grasp and knead the roots strongly when wash head
If they tie a knot, don’t comb too much, should use some professional non-oily preservative solution first then slowly comb.
3:If the hair extensions is long, please separate them in several strands then comb slowly with much patience. It must be washed by hand, not by machine and keep it in a dry place.

I like their service and their item. It really beautiful.Clap

Try mixing textures. I think the super defined look may come from all the curls being the exact same pattern. My hair textures vary from 4a/b and 3c so I know a complete 4a texture weave would be a hassle to blend!

Sorry for the late replies! I just got a job.

KurlieBeautie  - When I say it looks fake, I mean it looks TOO perfect yanno? I don't plan to blend since I'm wearing a wig. The photos posted of everyone's KC weaves look natural. They don't look too fake/too perfect, they look like these women are pulling the KC off very well. Like I said, when I had my hair natural before damaging it so it fit my face/type extremely well. But when I wear KC hair that's not mines, I feel it's too shiny or too perfect and is obvious it's fake. perhaps that's because I am able to compare my own real KC hair and fake KC hair. I've never had to blend my hair before. I do like how natural your install looks in the braid though.

AmandaKay - I really liked the pictures provided. In reply to your last post, that may be my problem - big hair. the youtube URL i provided when I said it looked fake was the fact that it was too perfect looking along with big. My hair wasn't really "big" like Chaka Khan's but it was thick. I guess the issue is the fact that so many KC weaves and wigs look not only too perfect but too big. it's mostly peakmill's video that i think looks fake.

alexiscymone - WHERE do you get that weave? it matches my hair very closely!!!

LeeMari - I agree. That's what I meant. Super defined comes out looking "too perfect", making me feel it's obvious it's fake. I should consider mixing textures if I ever get a weave again. I've heard to do that from someone before.

thanks everyone else for the tips!

^I guess I understand what you're saying, OP if your hair has different textures. All the curls on my head are the exact same texture and they are defined, so we have different KC goals.  LOL

Maybe to help with the shininess you think makes it look fake, make sure your leave out is moisturized, if you're gonna wear leave out, or maybe a light dusting of baby powder combed through the hair to take away some shine (I've done this before. It feels a little weird but works)

My edges are awful and I would like to leave them alone. What is a good braiding pattern for kinky curly hair without involving the edges? I need to avoid tension in that area and this will be my first time. I also need some leave-out since I won't be wearing a closure. I'm awaiting some hair by mail and I plan on getting a sew-in (using tracks). Thnx.

Wow, I'm loving these installs and think I'm ready to try the kinkier textures. I'm a 3a/b. Any vendor recommendations?
