I don't do it frequently, but if I felt the need to swim, go to a waterpark, etc, while on my cycle, then I'd plug it up and go.

I think that was like the big thing when I was a teenager - can you go swimming while on your cycle?

I can't speak for everybody, but I think that most women's cycles stop when they're in water, plus like I said, you should be plugged up anyways.

Out of all the times I've been in/around pools, I ain't neva seen no Jaws-like scene around some woman bleeding heavily in the water.  Just sayingSmile

I haven't gone swimming on my period but yes you can. You're underwater. Doesn't your cervix prevent blood from coming out since you're submerged

For some reason, I don't think I bleed when I'm in cold water

But I still wear a tamp...

I've done it and come to think of it, it was very stupid of me because we were in Hawaii! Sharks!
Once you get into the water, the blood flow stops, though. Something about the water pressure

You're not gonna free bleed while you're submerged in water just wear a tampon still but you're good for the most part

"I know there’s a lot of talk about whether your period “stops” or not in the water. While I understand the concept of water pressure in play here, your period does not stop in the water and just to make my point firmer, your period (a biological function) doesn’t “cease” just because you are in water"

No it's not that your period stops ,I always thought your cervix was what constricts while underwater or something like that.

Your period will be on still but just won't be able to get out as easily.

I would wear a tampon for extra protection and prevent accidents

Posted By: CamiK

I was talking about flow...I know some swimmers have said as soon as they get out the water(depending on how long they were in there) blood starts running down their legsDead..

I remember waaay back in another period thread when someone said that their period stops when they get in the shower, and someone else asked them if it also stopped when it rainsLOL

I still giggle about that sometimes.

I don't think anyone is deep sea diving if that's what you're referring to? That is the only thing I could think of to possibly constrict your cervix dilating to the point it wouldn't let any blood seep out?? Dead LOL hell IDK Jones...

Yes, the flow is still there...but due to the counter pressure while in the water, it wont flow as easliy...so once you get out...that sh*t start runningDead...

Lies Jewel's just lies....

When I was 16 in summer youth I had to take care of younger kids. My period came but I had to go in the ppol to take care of the kids. Yes ma'am your period stops fully when you get in the water. Good thing my period is usually light. but every time I came out of the water after about 5 minutes It would start again so I would go to the shower so my coouch could hit the water before getting in the pool again. SO I kept testing it out the whole day.....LOL. That day was horrid for me because I had glued in tracks and when I went under water my tracks were at the other side of the pool. It was just a bad day.Confused

so, i'm assuming they aren't using a tampon?????  lawdy....thank goodness i've never had an out of control cycle.  i know a girl who bleeds super heavily.  she is always bleeding through super tampons and extra maxi pads....Cry...geeezus i can't even imagine.  lol.

IDK, it just feels appropriate. Some people say they don't do baths cuz they "don't like sitting in dirt". I'm guessing dirt+blood is a bad combo...
I've also heard stories about my grandma almost whipping my aunt's ass back in the day for taking a bath instead of a shower while on her cycleDead

Posted By: ThoughtCouture
Date Posted: Jun 27 2013 at 6:53pm

thanks for explaining...i've heard the sitting in dirt angle before.  but i always feel the need to shower after a bath...lol...which is why i generally don't even bother with the bath part...

Q: I’ve noticed that when I swim in cold water with my period, it stops. Why?

A: It doesn’t actually stop; the lining of your uterus continues to shed. But the counterpressure of the water can stop the flow from coming out of your body. Oh, and the temperature of the water has nothing to do with it—this can happen whether you’re in a freezing-cold lake or warm Caribbean waters. Plus, if you’re floating or swimming horizontally, gravity isn’t able to pull the flow down and out as well as it would if you were in a more vertical position. (The same thing can happen when you’re lying down.) Once you’re out of the water and standing upright for several minutes, your period should return to normal.

*Boom lol*

Yes, that is basically what I mean by the flow stops. The blood no longer flows out of your body, which is exactly what you want. It's not folklore, I've done it. Granted towards the end of my period, but I've done it. Never in a pool, though. Always in the ocean, if that makes any difference Confused
