I understand her family mourning, but would it not be nice to celebrate the life of their loved one through this media outlet? idk... Always have to respect the family's decision...

i'm conflicted about the movie...i would be happy with a tv movie unless it has the potential to be as good as Selena(in that case it should be in theaters).

it will only be good if they're honest about the behind the scenes with her image, love life, etc.

Of course you can:

Michael Jackson
Aaliyah
Left Eye
James Brown
Tupac
DMX's career
Kanye's mom
Jennifer Hudson's fam
Robert Kardashian

i was/am a huge fan but tbh she's like a much more talented and packaged Ciara...she had swag, great songs, dance moves, but she was soft spoken and shy...not really a memorable personality.

I think people forget that Aaliyah was somewhat of a trailblazer for her time. She ushered in the new generation of teen female r/b singers. Before Brandy, Monica, Ciara, Beyonce etc., there was Aaliyah.

^^^ while i wouldn't consider her a trailblazer, i do fully agree with the 2nd part of that statement. even then it was like what, maybe a 4yr gap between her and brandy/monica.

eta: then i had to go back and get the quote

Brandy and Aaliyah's debut albums came out the same year...1994.

LOL@goodgirl...i'll just back away slowly.

Brandy came only like a year later.

I don't know how old most of the posters in this thread are but I am the same age that Aaliyah would have been and I distinctly remember when she came out with Age Aint Nothing but a Number and how teen girls like myself all reacted to another young black girl on the scene.

We had boy singers and boy groups like The Boys, ABC, Kriss Kross, Perfect Gentlemen etc. but teen black girl singers were pretty much non existent. Aaliyah's success was a huge deal.

Brandy might have been a few months after Aaliyah. I'll check but I'm sure Aaliyah came first

IA that Aaliyah was a huge deal but in 1994 both Brandy and Aaliyah's albums dropped and Brandy was a much bigger success...it took Aaliyah until the next album, 1996(One in a million) to become really big but she still never came close to outselling Brandy.

I'm so not serious guys.

And I think Brandy, Aaliyah, and Monica came out around the same time. wasn't Don't Take It Personal also released in '94?

welp, never mind on my end. i tried.

but i really do agree with you, she did (in part) spark off that teenage girl r&b craze.

95...i think they all played their part.

@noney...i enjoy 1990s aaliyah and brandy equal parts...for black people aaliyah was everything...brandy just had broader appeal bc of her good girl tv image.

I can't imagine a story of her life would be interesting unless they get into some of that sordid scandal. Can't see her family being in board with that cuz they don't seem like media whores at all.

Therefore, no point.

No movie necessary, but people hype up Aaliyah because of the emotional circumstances of her death. Her funeral service was like the day before 9/11, so that made her bigger in people's minds than she actually was.

dont think her life was worth telling,

theres no story to aaliyah, no milestones, nothing major. just a lot of postulation on how great she could have become which is questionable

I have to agree.

A few more live performances and the jig would've been up. Pretty girl and I even like her music but I have to call it like it is.

her talent was basic at best.
she was very gorgeous.
a movie is not needed IMO.

if ppl are bored enough to create one though.. there is this girl on youtube.. that i think favors her a lot.. and she'd be awesome for the role.

i thought i was the only one who thought this...i loved her some of her songs, but i don't think she's worthy of a movie

not unless they show how her relationships with r kelly, dame dash, and jay z
