Didn't he say in another song he exaggerated things now he's got it like that and now he's saying his story has never changed? Lol

He never started from the bottom. Negro came straight from the suburbs of Degrassi

Confused
degrassi is not a real place...

and 'the bottom' is subjective.
he moved in 6th grade and he said his mom worked hard to get them to a nice place to live (she was a single mother) and that 'nice place' was a half of a house if what ive read is correct. they got the bottom half and another fam got the top half.
before the 6th grade was worse...

oh and there was a period where his mom was very sick and his income was all they had, and if what ive read is correct he didnt make as much as you'd think...

alright so i watched the video, i like it. of course people who dislike drake will find something to clown him on then turn a blind eye on their favorite rapper who is faker than a 2 dollar bill...drake is the real deal tbh.

him saying he started from the bottom is true. he didn't become a star over night, he had to start from somewhere, right? everyone has a "bottom" and everyone's bottom is different. he started rapping at talent shows and hole in the wall pubs to selling out arenas, he started from the bottom.

just because he grew up in the burbs and was on a low budget sitcom most of us didn't watch, doesn't mean he grew up with rich or content. he had a dream, saw it and accomplished it. that's what the song is all about.

Actually those of us (88-93) pretty much came up with Drake becuase of Degrassi. So he didn't come "from the bottom" at all. We in that age group held him down from day 1

You're missing the point. The bottom is selling records out your trunk because no one's heard of you. Drake didn't have to do that.

Biggie rapped on the streets, Nas rapped in parks, Big Sean rapped at college campuses with just a boom box and a mic, Wale road up and down Georgia Ave, KDP and the danger zone for suport, J. Cole went to Saint Johns and pretty much stalked Hov for a chance

Drake got to skip that because he was already in the middle.

he still had to get past the stigma of being wheelchair jimmy and being perceived as not street enough to even rap.  it's the same thing child actors go through when they try to transition into adult films.  During the scream tour like hella yrs ago(before best i ever had was on the radio) when he came out to perform with lil wayne a lot of ppl were clowning.  he didn't come from the projects or the stereotypical single mother home but it's not like he got in through nepotism.  he worked.

there's a difference between non existent street rep and solid proof that u were on a tv show...it's harder.

it is real life though because it means that he was making a little money and all of his strife was really emotional, not economic....that is what ppl criticize him for all the time...his "sensitivity".

I don't believe that bottom needs to be defined differently for everyone.  Nothing wrong with not starting at the bottom. Working hard and Difficulty/taking time in reaching the echelons of your craft does not equal starting at the bottom IMO.

i already said people knew of him which is why i mentioned the stigma...everyone doesn't think favorably about Degrassi or even watch it...and some who do saw him as a certain character...that's a fact of the business for any performer.  going from a soapy teen show to hip hop artist makes it harder to be taken seriously.

just because ppl knew who he was doesnt mean ppl were fans of him as a rapper...

i watched degrassi faithfully since 7th grade until they were in college.. i didnt necessarily like or dislike jimmy.
i remember when his first video came out (i think lloyd was in it and it was on nickelodeon) and i was just like "oh wow... jimmy???" and my friend whom also watched degrassi from the start... wasnt feeling him at all. she actually didnt like the idea of him rapping, at all....

i didnt start really liking him until later

and once again, his mom was sick and it was only his income for a while and canadian teen shows back then did not make what you'd think...

right, he didn't get rich...

he had a single mother but they didn't live in the projects so i guess i want to know what the bottom is defined as....would it only be the bottom if he had extreme economic problems?  lived in a war zone?

starting from the bottom is just that, starting from the bottom. no press, no big name artist working with you, you fund yourself, no nothing!

think P and No Limit and Jay, Bigs and Dame with Rocafella

Exactly, I've heard it countless times in this city that "Drake sucks", or hot "hard" because he grew up in Forest Hill.

If growing up poor makes you a great rapper, then justin bieber would be the greatest in the world.

so much is lied about in hiphop....ppl talk about selling drugs..when the closest they got to drugs was a prescription from the pharmacist.

my opinion on Drake doesn't matter--I will likely buy his album.  I bought his last and I liked it.  I very rarely hear anyone criticize his upbringing/background outside of BHM tbh

but he was unknown when he made it onto Degrassi and he always wanted to do music, therefore he was at the bottom....he just got on earlier than others because he got that role.

yeah that's what i would consider the bottom.  or like fun....who last night said they've been at this ish for 12 years and now just got put on.

like rihanna never started from the bottom and that has nothing to do w/her upbringing.

starting from the bottom can have to do with material wealth. it just depends on what youre talking about.

if i was barely able to eat and never had any new clothes/items, then went on to become very very successful and money was no option whatsoever.. would i not say that i started at the bottom and now im at the top..?

oh and i do think that 'the bottom' is subjective. to me.. poor is different than 'poor' to paris hilton.

and they got over that after all his bangers....now it's a lame joke when you have nothing else to really really say.

One of the most  affluent neighborhoods in city, with Large Jewish Presence. Homes are easily worth several million. They are some rentals on the edges of the neighbour, but rent prices are way above average therefore nobody is slumming it in Forest hill.
