Or did (if you're in a relationship/married)?

Did they ever try and "hook you up"? Did they ever tell you what type of man/woman that they want to see you with?

How well does their ideal partner match up with your partner, or the people whom you date?

My mom wanted me to be with a nerdy type. My dad wanted someone who would adore his baby.

edit to finish answering. Well Hubby isn't nerdy at ALL! He is smart, but more physical. My Daddy got what he wantedHeart.

My mom wants me to be with a smart, loyal man who loves the lord.
She's also told me several times that she doubts that he'll be black.

One of my cousins thinks I'm going to end up with a nerdy guy, and she says if he is black he won't be American black.Ermm

Mostly my mother wants me to be with someone who is a doctor or someone who is educated and has lots of money. Current SO has no degree, works full time, has health insurance and treats me very well. I try to tell my mom that money isn't everything, but she's hard headed

My mom actually said to me recently that she doesn't see me being with anyone longterm...that I'm too solitary. And that she's glad I have my sisters so she knows I won't actually be alone when she dies.

Mom: highly educated, works in corporate, no kids, black, and preferably christian. But we live in Seattle so thats not going to happen.

Dad: As long as they're a good man who works hard and treats me right, just don't bring home a woman.

Damn, my mom is a little ratchet. She expected me to end up with an athlete or a rapper. She still talks about the few I dated. I really feel like she's disappointed.

Now she expects me to b a doctor and cares less about who I end up with. I'm with my child's father, but she doesn't care lol.

My dad expected me to b alone I think. He never mentioned a man I should b with. He just says monogamy was created by mankind and that no one can b monogamous forever.

I honestly think my mother is one of those "No one will ever be good enough for my child" types. She pretty much hates anyone my brothers and I date. She won't even need a legitimate reason.

She does seem slightly more approving of men who help/take care of me financially.

My dad just knew I would bring home someone in the medical field. He was a stickler about me being with men that are college educated. He had to be black as well. And he had to be a hard worker and talk like he's educated.. No dummies on his watch..

My mom just wanted me to be happy and be with someone that treats me like a Queen and loves me. She did not care about his skin color.. She just wanted me happy.. Smile

i know it ain't nothing but brightness along my whole family tree. my lightness is so strong that it over-ruled my husband in 2 out of 3 kids. LOL

it sucks how the older ones really had that paper bag thing down.  my dad was 80 when he passed in july, and when he met my husband the only thing he focused on was that he had on brown and was 'lookin like a big ole tootsie roll'.  my husband is denzel's colorConfused

other than that, he is the TYPE of man they expected me to be with, doting to the extent of being spoiling, super family oriented, successful, known well within our community, has service oriented interests, well established financially.  they expected him to have a degree since i do and they are both master's holders, but he was able to do exceptionally well without it.

They just want me to marry a man that’s wealthy, respectable, attractive, professional, and Christian etc. My family's not color struck. So they don't care about petty things like race, or complexion. Thank God I've never had to deal with that type of coonery within my family. Tongue
