10 POST-WORKOUT SNACKS UNDER 150 CALORIES

Updated Jan 17 2013 - 12:10pm · Posted  by  http://www.fitsugar.com/author/Jenny+Sugar" rel="nofollow - Jenny Sugar  ·  http://www.fitsugar.com/Low-Calorie-Post-Workout-Snacks-22495902#comments" rel="nofollow - 1 comment

Just as important as it is to fuel up before you exercise, don't forget to eat a little something once your workout is complete. (Your body needs a combo of protein and carbs to build and repair muscle and quickly recharge lost energy.) Don't go overboard and consume so many calories that it cancels out the ones you burned while sweating it out. Here are some ideas for post-workout snacks, all under 150 calories.

  1. 4 oz. lowfat cottage cheese ( http://www.calorieking.com/foods/calories-in-cottage-cheese-low-fat-1-milk-fat_f-ZmlkPTEyMzc4Mg.html" rel="nofollow - 81 calories ) mixed with half a cup of diced fresh pineapple ( http://www.calorieking.com/foods/calories-in-fresh-fruits-pineapple-raw_f-ZmlkPTYzNjYz.html" rel="nofollow - 41 calories ): 122 calories

i kinda wish a new people who worked out because i always have to google or figure stuff out on my own.  i was so weak a few days ago and couldnt figure out why until someone upstairs asked me about my protein levels in relation to my hair (mid-shaft splits) and i was likeoff i went to google.  forced myself to eat some protein and was back to my old self.

class was cool tonight. the instructor invited the new guys to come up and chat with him afterwards. he blabbed about calories and what diet plans he thinks are best (WW and Nutrisystem, don't do low-carb, etc). I guess that's cool if you're a nutrition newbie. funny cuz I had on a ___ ___ University Medicine shirt and don't fully subscribe to calories in-calories out anymore.

@afro, i drank the x-tend before and during class. it's an okay taste. a little sweet.
not sure that it gave me more energy or anything but since i'm on a low calorie diet I hope it spares my muscles as it says. Maybe i'll feel it more when lifting

also, i felt a little full at the beginning of my workout even though I hadn't eaten since 12 noon

Cookies and cream protein is so tasty. I have plain protein and that crap is so nasty but cheaper than flavored stuff.

This is for those that think people might stare at them at the gym

@afro, i drank the x-tend before and during class. it's an okay taste. a little sweet.
not sure that it gave me more energy or anything but since i'm on a low calorie diet I hope it spares my muscles as it says. Maybe i'll feel it more when lifting

also, i felt a little full at the beginning of my workout even though I hadn't eaten since 12 noon

keep me updated,

track whether it makes a diff or not

i order mine later this weekend

CATHERINE NDEREBA (Kenya)
Between July and October 1998, Ndereba (pictured), then 26, won 13 consecutive road races ranging in distance from 5-K to half-marathon after giving birth to her daughter in 1997. In 1999, she ran the world's fastest times at 5-K, 12-K, 15-K, and 10 miles and took second at the New York City Marathon in 2:27:31.
Ndereba broke the women's marathon world record in 2001, running 2:18:47 at the Chicago Marathon.

Allyson Felix and Sanya Richards-Ross

Quote In capturing gold at the London Olympics last year, both Allyson Felix and Sanya Richards-Ross overcame a nemesis. For Felix, 27, it was Jamaican sprinter Veronica Campbell-Brown. Felix had finished second to Campbell-Brown in the 200 meters at both the 2004 and 2008 Games. This time Felix allowed the Jamaican just an instant in the lead before accelerating in the final 50 meters to win with daylight. "I kept thinking, Be aggressive," says Felix. "Don't let up."

For Richards-Ross, 27, her own body had long stood in her way. For five years, she had suffered an autoimmune illness that caused fatigue and joint pain that only recently abated. In London, she was third coming out of the final turn in the 400 meters, and briefly flashed back to the 2008 Games and the crushing disappointment of fading in the homestretch to finish third. Would this be a repeat performance? "Just as quickly, I thought, No way. I've worked too hard at this," she says. "I'm the best in the world. I'm ready for this moment."

In addition to their individual laurels, Felix ran the second leg of the world-record-setting 4 x100-meter relay, and the two sprinters teamed to win yet another gold in the 4 x 400-meter relay. The wins were part of an inspiring American track performance that brought home 29 medals, six more than in 2008.

At the top of their game, both Felix and Richards-Ross are also at the top of their sport. "They are two of the most popular track athletes in the world," says Jill Geer of U.S.A. Track & Field, the sport's governing body. "They have the total package--talent, intelligence, grace, charisma. They're great examples on and off the track of how to conduct your life."

Indeed, both Felix and Richards-Ross embrace their status as role models to aspiring athletes (and their combined nearly 200,000 Twitter followers). Felix is a member of the President's Council on Fitness, Sports, and Nutrition, and both she and Richards-Ross frequently speak to youth groups about staying motivated, working hard, and maintaining integrity.

Gold medals simply give Felix a bigger platform from which to spread that message of perseverance. She remembers her devastation upon learning that her idol, Marion Jones, took performance-enhancing drugs. "I never want a person to feel that way about me," she says. "Being a role model is a privilege."

Thanks for keeping the thread alive. I did taebo last night on my wii. Woo! Loved it. I was hanging in there and it was kicking my rump. I also did the squat challenge and another circuit workout. I logged my exercise and it seems that I burned 1300 calories. I need to invest in some protein powder to keep up.   Smile

Gia that's great. How do you like that workout? Just make sure to put time aside for your workout. I was in the best shape when I always got in my workouts. I used to workout late at night if I had to. Nothing got in my way. It relaxed me. I would take a shower and sleep like a baby lol.

Just did Chalean Extreme. Week 2/Workout 2. sipped a little X-tend before workout and during
all but one of my lifts increased and my muscles were a lot less tired
even got a little post workout "pump" as they call it if you can see it in my arms (not sure that that had anything to do with the bcaas)

Grrr.
I've been hooked on energy drinks
Too much sugar, too much bloat, too many carbs
I bought caffine power, so I can switch from the "energy sodas"
Been squating and plan to make cardio mandatory 7 days a week even if it's a brisk 30 minute walk

Too bad I saw your posts after I had a chocolate bar.

I feel SO beat up today. I had a serious work out.
More cardio tmr, but I really need to cut down on my sugar. I'm thinking of just having soup for 2 weeks straight while I work out.

make those muscles work
