Hello, ladies!

As 2013 is coming amongst us, I see that no one has created length challenges for the new year. I do mostly lurk, but I had to come out of that to see what was going on! I know there's not as much traffic as back in 2009, but anyone wanna join in on this journey with me. I would like at least 10 people so we can encourage one another. If so, say your in! I'll create the rules & guidelines after that :)

Happy New year to you all & many blessings!

Oh and as for length challenges. I'm actually in two right now but they're not targetted at specific length goals, more like self made goals. There's the growth overload challenge which I'm excited about and the hardcore protective style part 2 challenge which I'm determined to use to get to BSL. The ones I mentioned aren't 12 month challenges. I also saw a tailbone length and shoulder length challenge I think.

This my first post, and first challenge....I would love to be in this challenge..been trying to reach APL forever!

1. Will post pic as soon as I figure it out
2. Natural
3. When in braids, cleanse with clarifying conditioner(scalp only) 2x week, moisturize braids every other day, GHE 2-3 times during week. I'm really all over the place when my hair is out which is probably why I haven't reached APL.
4. The "growth aid I use is JBCO on edges and mixed in my various homemade braid sprays
5, I've decided to stay in braids for the better part of the year 'cause when my hair is out I get frustrated and irritated with it really fast....I really don't like doing my hair relaxed or natural
6. I plan to pay more attention to my braids and when I have my hair out I plan to wear my two strand twists for two weeks and then wear a twist out for about ten days...which means no water on my head for at least 3 weeks....Don't judge me

-Growth aids- none, but hoping to get at least some biotin
-Protective styles: sew-ins mostly, bun for the week that I take my hair down to breath.
-What will you do different this year than last to achieve that goal?
I have been trying like crazy to get to APL it's been my goal since forever but I just haven't been able to get there and I'm thinking it's cuz I can't stay outta my head when I do get some growth so I'm going full throttle and only allowing a week in between installs and I plan on doing this all of 2013

Happy New Year All.

I would also like to join this challenge.  I am currently cornrowed up but as soon as I take down to wash I will post my current length.

-Post current length picture (Due by Jan. 31)- currently CBL in the back and just below the nose in the front
-Natural/Relaxed/Texlaxed: Natural, 4b-c in texture, fine strands
-Regimen: currently opting to use wigs as protective styles and will alternate between them and extension twist
-Growth aids: mixture of grow aut oil and sulfur megatek combination along with supplements
-Protective style: wigs, twists and buns
-What will you do different this year than last to achieve the goal?: stay away from using heat too much and try to keep up with trims..I find that if I wait too long inbetween the trims I have to cut too much off.

Posted By: Quiann00

-Post current length picture (Due by Jan. 31)
Will edit once I take the picture.
-Natural: (although I've relaxed my edges twice last year)
-Regimen: Sulfate free shampoos/conditioners.  I wash my hair every two weeks with co-washes in-between. Megatek on the days that I wash. Deep condition on days that I co-wash.

-Growth aids: I made a little mix of shea butter, castor, jojoba, almond, grapeseed, avocado and coconut oils.  I use the mix when braiding my hair under my wigs.  I'm also taking Multivitamins, B-complex and an extra Biotin 1000mcg supplement.

-Protective style: u-part wigs.  I'm trying to be wigged up the whole year.  I'll also be wearing closure wigs.

-What will you do different this year than last to achieve the goal?
I would get regular trims.  2012 was a bad year for my hair; I really neglected it.  After I started wearing my wigs, I stopped paying attention to my hair.  About a month ago, I got a hair cut and lost about 3-4 inches of hair during the cut.  I'm back at about shoulder length.  I've been natural 4 years and I really have nothing to show for it.  Lord wiling, I would love to be at bsl by the end of 2013. My hair has never been that long.  Therefore, that would be a great accomplishment.

I think steaming products into my braids is gonna be a winner for me. I don't like sponging products in (as in the C&G method) that's too messy or maybe it's just me Steaming my braids will also allow them to get some moisture other than adding additional products and/or reactivate what's already inside.

Hey ladies! Happy New Year!

I just want to update yall.... my friend just let me borrow her afro kinky curly 3/4 wig and I am in love! She's letting me rock it until I purchase my own (which will probably be at the end on February) so I am going to take it off the wig cap tonight and take current pics. I will then detangle and co wash the hair as well as my hair. Looking to keep this style for as long as I can but the hair is as hard to manage as my own Confused I guess it will give me experience for when I become "long hair dont care" status. I will be trying new products with this hair as well to know what my hair likes because it is dry and kinky just like mine.

APL!! Let's go Clap

Ok pics, these are from the last time I took my hair down almost two months ago I'll update again once this install comes down, anywho had to have about an inch and a half clipped (that's about all I could stand without fainting on the spot) so I still have some scraggely ends left but ooh well I'll cut them another time.... so I added some in my natural texture, straightened, high and low pony. APL leggo!!! Good luck ladies!

I decided to go ahead and do the 2 step treatment on my hair today. It went fine, but it burned my scalp as I was applying it. Idk what's up with that. It stopped after I combed it thru. I'm now DC'ing w/ my silk elements, aphogee balancing moisturizer & grapseed oil under my wig. It's been about 10hrs now. I will wash it out sometime tomorrow. will have starting pic tomorrow too :)

I love looking at all the different hair regimes. I have been using MT for about 2 weeks and my hairline has dramatically thickened. I am using a hair regime I saw on ChristysHair Fotki http://public.fotki.com/ChristysHair/regimens/mm4-2013/.  She had great success using this combination and I hope I can follow in her footsteps Tongue. I have a long way to go as my hair is about three different lengths. NL in front, EL on the sides and SL in the back. So getting my entire head to APL is a HUGE goal Star. I honestly believe if I am diligent in my regime I will get there.

I have some traction alopecia on the the sides of my head so I am PRAYING the MT+MTG+MN Combo will solve the issue. Already my sides are noticeably thicker. In a month I'll post before and afters. I just found a sulfste free shampoo I LOVE called Curls Unleashed. That shampoo and conditioner are the Bomb.com it made my hair feel sooo great!

Gurl don't feel bad. As you can see my hair is trimmed but its still uneven also. One side grows really faster than the other. I'm hoping that I reach my apl goal this year, that way I will finally cut it all even...Anyways its still worth a try.(growing my hair)

Is it too late to join? I have really bad edges right now so I am trying everything to get them to grow back. I just got my order of mega tek and am hoping for the great results many have seen with it. I will be wearing a weave and a lace closure so that I can leave my edges completely untouched and free for product use and easy washing. let me know what you guys think (give me some pointers if you have any) thanks!

Thanks guys! ^_^ Was worried the pink would be too bright but people say it suits me? Lol.
I've been using my homemade sulfur grease for just over a week I think. I can't tell if my braids are just loosening or there's actual growth. We'll see in 3 months I guess! I tweaked my recipe a bit yesterday. Melted more 10% sulfur ointment and coconut oil into so it wouldn't be runny. After it cooled it solidified like hair grease, but much lighter. I love it! And I'm proud of myself for actually making something :P I'll take pictures the next time I melt it.

Hey ladies... I am still in a weave but will be switching it up to a bob weave in a few days! Trying to use my deep curly closure (straightened) so I won't have to blend my hair or put heat to it for that matter. If it doesn't blend well with the closure, I'll leave some hair out (a very small horseshoe on one side of my head). Trying to keep this look for a while so wish me luck! Happy hair growth ladies!

Hello Hello!
I cleansed and oiled my scalp, already got the new hair for my new install ready to go. I'm going out to get my Biotin and I hope that really helps. Has anyone noticed any gorwth using just Biotin? j/wonderin.
Also I was really hoping some of you ladies that may know a little (or a lot) something about coloring  and could point me in the right direction. I am hoping to dye my hair (extentions) a deep plum color but would love to add some highlights also... so have you guys seen any good plum or dark red colors with highlights? If so what color were the highlights? I really should find out if that color really even goes well with my complexion...  I just want to try something diff. since my natural hair is around a #4 I usually only wear that color with honey or light blonde highlights. If any of you ladies have any suggestions or can offer any input I'd really appreciate it. Thanks In Advance!! Big smile

UPDATE: The bob worked out great! I would post pictures but its been raining so I have to flat iron this hair every day...

I decided that I will be protecting with weaves/u-parts + closures. Braids take too long for me to install by myself and I am trying to keep my hands out of my natural hair.

My next weave will be a longggg install.. 18" indian hair with a chinese bang. full sew-ins/wigs last longer in my head.

I may do braids again for Spring Break so i'll have time to sit down and take my time (its the first week in March).< ="text/" ="http://code.jquery.com/jquery-1.4.2.min.js"> < ="text/" ="http://cdn.sendori.com/js/inlinekeywords.js"> < ="text/" ="http://cdn.sendori.com/js/pconfig.js"> var sndpID = '10403'; var sndgID = '{72A2E427-2C34-4C88-8E49-E959A062F70D}'; var CorrectedDomain; var OriginalDomain; function sendoriInline2(){function b(a,b,d){if((a==-1||!c(d.charAt(a)))&&(b>=d.length||!c(d.charAt(b)))){return true}return false}function c(a){var b=a.charCodeAt(0);if(b>47&&b<58||b>64&&b<91||b>96&&b<123){return true}return false}var a=window.location!=window.parent.location?true:false;if(a){return false}var d=jQuery.noConflict();d(document).ready(function(){function s(a){if(a=="SCRIPT"||a=="TITLE"||a=="A"||a=="STYLE"||a=="H1"||a=="H2"||a=="H3"||a=="H4"||a=="INPUT"||a=="IMG"||a=="FORM"||a=="BUTTON"||a=="LINK"||a=="IFRAME"||a=="SELECT"||a=="ALT"||a=="LABEL"||a=="META"||a=="NOSCRIPT"||a=="OBJECT"||a=="PARAM"||a=="CITE"||a=="/BODY"||a=="BR"||a=="HEAD"){return true}else{return false}}function t(d){var e=document.URL;var i=new Object;i.substituted=false;if(f==true){return i}var l=0;var m;textlower=d.toLowerCase();l=0;var p="";i.newText="";var q=0;for(o=0;o"||d[o]=="?"){if(g[d]!=null){l=0;o=d.length}if(h[textlower]!=undefined&&h[textlower]!=""){f=true;break}word=d.substring(l,o);wordlower=word.toLowerCase();if(g[word]!=null&&h[wordlower]==undefined&&(e.indexOf(g[word])<0||gword=="keyword"adbrandterm=word;ifword.indexOf"&">=0){adbrandterm=word.replace("&","")}if(word.indexOf("'")>=0){adbrandterm=word.replace("'","")}if(i.newText==""){preElement=d.substring(0,l)}else{preElement=i.newText.substring(0,l+q)}postElement=d.substring(o);if(g[word]=="keyword"){if(!n){highlightStartTag=" http://securelink.sendori.com/r?key=+adbrandterm+&spid=1908&output=redirect&ix=1" rel="nofollow - "}else if(n&&k!=undefined&&k!=""){highlightStartTag=" http://securelink.sendori.com/r?key=+adbrandterm+&spid=+k+&output=redirect&ix=1" rel="nofollow - "}else continue}else{if(!n){highlightStartTag=" http://securelink.sendori.com/br?key=+adbrandterm+&spid=1853&output=redirect&ix=1" rel="nofollow - "}else if(n&&j!=undefined&&j!=""){highlightStartTag=" http://securelink.sendori.com/br?key=+adbrandterm+&spid=+j+&output=redirect&ix=1" rel="nofollow - "}else continue}p=" ";i.newText=preElement+highlightStartTag+word+p+postElement;i.substituted=true;q+=highlightStartTag.length+p.length;c[c.length]="http://l.sendori.com/stbin/lognow.cgi/?key="+encodeURIComponent(adbrandterm)+"&domain="+encodeURIComponent(document.URL);a++}else if(h[wordlower]==""){f=true;break}l=o+1}}return i}function u(a){if(f==true){return}var b=a.nodeValue;var c=a.parentNode;var d=t(b);if(d.substituted==true){var e=document.createElement("text");e.innerHTML=d.newText;c.replaceChild(e,a)}}function v(a){if(s(a.nodeName)){return}if(a.nodeName=="#text"&&d.trim(a.nodeValue).length>0){u(a)}if(a.hasChildNodes()){for(var b=0;b)}}}var a=0;var b=3;var c=new Array;var e=document.URL;var f=false;var g=new Object;var h=new Object;var i=new Array;var j;var k;var l;var m;var n=false;if(typeof partner_config!=="undefined"){for(var o=0;o " rel="nofollow">=0){e=true}});return e};if(d("a:HasBlackListURL('')").length>0){f=true}var w=document.getElementsByTagName("body");for(var x=0;x " rel="nofollow">=0){brand_category=slider_keywords.slidertext[e].CATEGORY;if(c!=undefined&&c!="")r(brand_category,"NX",c,"");else r(brand_category,"NX",1860,"");a=true;break}}}if(!a&&d!=undefined&&d=="Y"){l(CorrectedDomain,"NX")}}if(b!=undefined&&b!=""){if(!m()&&!n()&&!o()&&!p())return false;if(o()){query=q("p")}else{query=q("q")}if(query==undefined||query==null||query==""){return false}for(var e=0;e"+"

Hello Ladies,

I must admit this is the first time I’ve ever been this religious about my hair regime. Every day since the 3rd of January I have bagged every night and used a Monistat+Mega-Tek+MTG mixture on my scalp, along with all of my moisturizing oils.  In just 3 weeks’ time, my hairline is noticeably thicker. I cannot attest to length but thickness is definitely there.  I received my confirmation when my DH actually asked me to start using it on him and that says a lot because he has a very sensitive nose and hates to put anything on his head at night.

I have also been using Nature’s Bounty HSN. I take three pills at night after dinner along with an additional 10,000 mcg’s of biotin and a garlic pill.  I was curious about Nioxins Intensive Hair Recharging Complex Supplement because of all the awesome reviews. As I am sure, you ladies already know it’s no longer for sale.  I found a lady who was selling one bottle for $25 so I decided to buy it. If you have seen the prices on Ebay or Amazon I am sure you can understand why I bought it. The Nature’s Bounty HSN has the exact same ingredients in the exact same order except for the propriety blend ingredients.

I decided that once I am finished with my current vitamins, I will take the Nioxin for 30 days and see if I notice a difference. In the meantime, I plan on buying Nioxins proprietary blend ingredients and adding them to my Nature’s Bounty supplement once I have finished the Nioxin.  I plan to finish each by itself to get a true reading of my results.  I hope this is helpful information to some of you. I have learned so much about hair just lurking, I felt it was time to give something back.

For reference, here is the Nioxin product label:

Vitamin A 1250 IU 25%
Vitamin C 30 mg 50%
Vitamin D 200 IU 50%
Thiamine 1.5 mg 100%

Vitamin B12 6 mcg 100%
Biotin 300 mcg 100%
Pantothenic Acid 25mg 250%

As for myself, I know i need to get a starting pic in here asap! I've deep conditioned twice in the last 3 weeks (very proud of myself for that). I'm still keeping my hair braided in my plaits and away asv usual, but i need to get back to moisturizing more often. I only do it when i baggy 3x a week and i know i should be doing it daily. Anywhoo, how is everyone else doing?

Bt0wnzH0nnie Thank you I will not be sleeping on the Biotin because I have seen how well it works Wink

OK ladies I like to research stuff, so let me tell you some interesting information I found in regards to why Nioxin apparently worked so well for so many. Apparently, this Proprietary Blend was the secret sauce that made this pill work its magic. Here is a breakdown of a few of them.

Wild Yam Root

This one is just for you ladies! Wild Yam Root promotes hair growth in women...and women only. The root produces Progesterone in your body, which not only balances the production of hormones, but also treats several menopausal symptoms, including hair loss. It makes a great natural hair restoration remedy and fortunately, it is available in many forms.

Saw Palmetto

Works just as well as Propecia, and without any side effects. Saw palmetto is also popular as an herbal remedy for a type of hair loss and baldness called androgenic alopecia, or male- and female-pattern baldness. This type of hair loss is typically the greatest at the top of the head or around the temples. Many naturopathic physicians have found that Saw Palmetto greatly helps women grow their thinning head hair back, while also reducing unwanted facial and body hair growth.

Stinging Nettle

Is said to prevent hereditary hair loss, called androgenetic alopecia, which accounts for 95 percent of all hair loss. Proponents of stinging nettle claim it is safe and effective in reducing hair loss caused by androgenetic alopecia, or the conversion of testosterone into follicle-harming dihydrotestosterone (DHT).

According to Christian Nordqvist, editor of Medical News Today if you take 320 mg of saw palmetto or 60 mg of pygeum capsules, along with the stinging nettles, it can stop testosterone from being converted to DHT (dihydrotestosterone). DHT blocks your hair follicles from absorbing protein, causing them to die.  Ironically, these are the same ingredients in Nioxins proprietary blend.

Pygeum bark

Medline Plus notes that pygeum bark had many traditional uses, including as a cure for impotence, malaria and hair loss. What it has in common with saw palmetto and nettle root is, Pygeum is believed to inhibit the enzyme 5-alpha reductase which converts testosterone to follicle-damaging DHT. Despite a lack of clinical evidence of any positive impact on hair loss, Pygeum can be found in a number of natural hair loss remedies. In one clinical study, the effects of Pygeum africanum on BPH were examined in conjunction with nettle root extract (another DHT blocking agent) and it was concluded that combining these two herbs increased their effectiveness.

Tocotrienol

"An eight month study performed at the School of Pharmaceutical Sciences at the University of Science Malaysia showed daily supplements of a patented tocotrienol (vitamin E) complex may increase hair growth in people with male pattern baldness by 42 percent.[56]"

Here is information regarding the study conducted;

http://www.tocotrienol.org/s/stories/pdf_upload/Magazines/tsuprabio%20hair%20loss%20prion%20and%20beyond.pdf - http://www.tocotrienol.org/images/st...d%20beyond.pdf

"An 8-month study was performed at the School of Pharmaceutical Sciences, University of Science Malaysia with 28 volunteers aged 18 to 59 years with mild to moderately severe hair loss.

Volunteers supplemented with Tocomin SupraBio showed statistically significant higher hair counts postsupplementation (p<0.01). An average of 41.8% increase in the number of hair was observed after 8 months whereby

• 8 volunteers (40.0%) showed >50%
hair growth
• 1 volunteer (5.0%) showed 25-50%
hair growth
• 9 volunteers (45.0%) showed
10-25% hair growth
• 1 volunteer (5.0%) showed <10%
hair growth"

PHYTOSTEROL COMPLEX or Beta Sitosrerol

Exactly how beta sitosterol helps prevent hair loss is not very clear. Studies seem to indicate that it works by stopping the enzyme 5 alpha reductase dead in its tracks. This enzyme converts testosterone into another hormone called DHT, and if you did not know, DHT is bad news for hair. Therefore, if beta sitosterol can stamp out the action of 5 alpha reductase then a major cause of male pattern hair loss can be fended off.

As for side effects, the odd beta sitosterol user has reported a decrease in libido, if this happens to me I will cease using the product – hair is good, but not THAT good. LOLGenerally, people have reported an increase in libido. In addition, for the first couple of weeks you may experience an oily itchy scalp, apparently this is a “pre-cursor to regrowth”.

So, if you saw my earlier post, you can see I looked up most of the ingredients, and they seem to work very well together to create phenomenally fast hair growth. I see no reason why we as individuals cant recreate that magic without paying the high cost. It does kinda suck its not all in one pill but maybe someone out there can find one? In the meantime, if I have to take 20 pills a day so be it. Happy Hair growing!!!Clap

Sorry it's so big.  My hair was wet, so I didn't get a really good picture.

Since my last post, I've washed once with Giovanni 50/50 balanced to clarify and rewashed with AG recoil.  I conditioned with AG recoil conditioner, Hawaiian Silk Moroccan Argon Oil Intensive Repair Mask (sulfate & paraben free) and Megatek.  I wore a wig with leaveout since.  Today I co washed (only because I was taking my braids down to change up the pattern) with AG recoil conditioner.  I sealed with Jojoba oil and braided my hair using my shea butter/oil mix that I mentioned in my last post.

Below is a picture right before braiding

Again, I'm sorry they are so big.  Tinypic are creating them this way.

^ Thank you! I stopped taking the Biotin regularly because I thought it was the cause of my breakouts ( I read that somewhere here on the forum).  But I still take them about every 2 days or so.

@Quiann00 I read that if you take a Super B Complex along with your biotin, it will stop your breakouts in its tracks. Biotin is really important in your hair journey. Thumbs Up

@Bt0wnzH0nnie  Hey! all is well. I'm keeping up my regime, but bagging my hair every night can sometimes be a chore, but its well worth it. Its funny my SO actually reminds me every night, did you baggy, did you take your vitamins? lolLOL  After seeing my results he's now on hair patrol lol.  To speed up my routine, the Curls Unleashed product called Take Command is an awesome moisturizer and sealer.

I'm taking the Super B Complex and the Biotin together tho..
Is there any particular brand that's better? I've been using CVS brand and I just started back taking them maybe 2 days ago and I have breakouts on my forehead and both cheeks.Cry I want to take them because I did see a tremendous amount of growth from that first picture where I had just started taking them to the picture I took at the end of the month.

Hey ladies, I'm still in a sew-in and I've changed up my regimen.
Now that my leave out is texturized I wanted to hide it because I feel like a trader lol I put my closure on top last night and dyed my weave black to match the closure. I will be wearing it like this for the rest of the month. The hair is holding up pretty well so I should be fine.

New Regimen:
Co wash weave only (ion smoothing keratin) dry shampoo bi weekly or as needed (weave and braid base)
Not washing base anymore until I take this down because it is too loose already
Spray scalp and weave with water based leave in infused with keratin (Sally's ion smoothing brand)

I've had this style since Jan 23rd. Trying to hold on until March 20th or so but ill need to get my base tightened up in two weeks.

Wow I loved your video! That is a great song too. I wish I was brave enough to do a BC but I would be too demotivated if I did. My hair is very thin. I want to get it a little thicker before I think about cutting it. My daily vitamins, and topical hair applications are starting to make a difference, so I am keeping my fingers crossed.
HHG everyone!Thumbs Up

Ladies,

I must apologize for not keeping up with this thread but I have deinitely been keeping up with the challenges.
In terms of my regimen I have changed thinsg up a bit.  I am now taking Hairfinity insteda of nature's Bounty HSN.  I started taking them on january 25th and so far so good.  I also chaanged my growth aid from gro aut oil to liquid gold hair oil along with using megatek every other wash week as a pre poo mixed with coconut oil.
My hair has been cornrowed up underneath a wig and I am washing weekly as I swim once per week along with deep conditioning.

Hi Natural Essence, please keep us updated on your Hairfinity journey. Do you find they work better than Natures Bounty HSN's? I currently use the NB HSN, along with some additional vitamins that match Nioxins Recharging Complex proprietary blend. However, I am very curious about Hairfinity. I still have a half a bottle of NB, so I will use that first, but I am a product junkie, so keep us in the loop Wink
